: 1996 Formula Iii Or Z 600 Or 583 Rave
Good2Go 03-20-2003, 06:34 PM Hey everyone, please dont refer back to my old posts about deep snow and all that, i just wanted to ask if these sleds had any problems. Blowing cranks, pistons, etc??
How are they on gas and what is the top speed? What are they worth in canadian money? Thanks in advance. SWRules
rodmax 03-20-2003, 07:58 PM :) I had a 96 FIII 600, loved it, no complaints.Top speed about 107mph. I blew it up due to not knowing what I was doing with the clutches.Parted it down.96 FIII =$2400.00-3000.00Can.
I now have a 95 STX lt with the 583 rave it is good , but not the power of the tripple. Both these have the C7 suspension which cant take a lot of ruff stuff, but great on the lake or trail.I am only getting about 12.5 mpg.I got better mileage with the FIII about 14 mpg.Top speed about 95mph .( This is a long track model.)Also$2400-2800. I have 9700 km on my 583, no motor trouble yet.
XCR583 03-20-2003, 10:38 PM The 583 is a great motor. Very reliable!!! If I was you thats what I would choose!!
oldyeller 03-21-2003, 01:04 AM I agree the 583 is a great reliable motor. I hear some of the F-III 600s were fast, but I've never seen one.Properly tuned they both are good on gas and most 583s will run in the 90s,around 100mph in perfect conditions. My brother has blown up his 97 F-III and its been a pig all of its life.We radared it at 84mph this winter, compared to a phazer and a MXZ 500 fan at 85mph each.I know there are some quick f-111s around but the reliability is scary.Lots of crank bearing issues in stock form.
doonut 03-21-2003, 10:04 AM mx462,if you are serious about buying one, I have a 97 formula z 583 with 4000 miles on it,250 on new track and studs. The sled is about as mint as you will find. Its going to the dealer for trade this week. You can have it for 3 grand(thats what i am getting trade and tax difference). Mike97Z put 10,000 miles on the identical sled before touching the motor. It will run 90 any day of the week and 100 plus radar on perfect surfaces. You can see it just 30 minutes from your place in Orillia. Its at Cambels landing in Gravenhurst. If you are interested, you will have to move quick because after this weekend,I won't own it anymore and they will ask more for it.
QUEBEC#1 03-21-2003, 01:37 PM i had a 96 f3 , bought it brand new and sold it last january for $ 3200, it was in mint shape and i put on about 11000km on the machine. the track was replaced, i put on flex skis and the last year i had it i replaced the c7 for a used sc10. it always ran great in any temps not like my polaris xc 700 and i never had a problem with it, great speed around 105mph + in the right conditions, it burnt very little oil and burnt less gas than my xc 700, i heard the 600 , 700, & 800s in the ck3 chassis had a lot of crank problems but never the 600s in the f chassis stay away from the 670s...
583 all the way......My 1996 mxz 583 was an awsome sled.....My friend still has one with 8000 miles on it!!!!
dave583ss 03-21-2003, 04:41 PM i have owned 2 583's and and they are bulletproof tough. Awesome bottom end but I have never got it over 90mph, dont care about that because I mostly ride trails. They will take any beating you can give them.
FreezerBurnt 03-21-2003, 05:46 PM I got a 95 STX 583 :) $2500 last December 2001
13,500+kms now
I am 6'5 260lbs and the STX fits me great
Friends are the reason I went to the 583
They owned 94-95 STXs and 94-95 FZs and 92-93 PlusX
And they have been bullet proof and they used to radar run them all the time 97-104mph speed runs
average speed should be 95 if not fiddled with :)
I got 99.7mph last dec 2001 :)
I also have friends that have had the 96-97 FIII 600s and have have had good luck with them
96 FIIIs are the fastest 600 triples IMO,though there are fast ZRTs but around here the FIII ruled the lake
I also gotten time getting 96 FIIIs unstuck in powder :cussing: heavy
MPG is about the same between the 583 and FIII
They are not the best in deep snow but are not the worst neither ;) ???
Both are super reliable

Hey doonut, but sorry to say i dont have the money rite now, otherwise i would really consider it. I know excactly where you live too. ??? :D
ANyways, by the sounds of it they sound like a really nice reliable sled, so i am deeply considering one in the summer. Thanks guys.
da bomb 03-23-2003, 07:33 PM Get the 96 f-III. I own one, It has almost 4000 miles and this is a great machine. Last year i owned a 94 ZR700 and the F-III kicks the crap out of it. It has great power out of the hole, and top end, especially when you have the right size belt  It is similar out of the hole to an MXZ 700. not quite as quick but it can run with it. The motors are bulletproof. I know a guy that has one it siezed up 6 times in one day and it still runs :0: One thing with them is turn the oil pump up a little, She might smoke but dont she go and cant i driver er!!!!
Good2Go 03-23-2003, 08:46 PM Wow. they sound nice
Looks like i'll be working over the summer and looking for one of those in the fall! Thanks guys.
