Ive gotta 02 PRO X 440 and polaris says a 32:1 premix w/ their polaris racing oil... i was lookin at AMSOIL series 2000 racin oil... and it says recommended w/ a 50:1 premix... can i use a 50:1 premix in my pro x w/ using the amsoil 2000? or would i still have to use 32:1?

It is usually best to go with the machine manufacture recommendations, but you can also contact the oil manufacturer for their views for your paticular machine.

I agree 100%.

Believe it or not, your sled will actually run worse with less oil.
On a pre-mix system, your amount of oil in the gas is calculated in your jetting. There is only room for so much fluid to pass through the orifice size of the jets, and your pre-mix takes up some of that volume.
As you lean out your oil ratio, you are actually increasing the amount of fuel that can pass through the jets, essentially richening your fuel/air ratio.
I am on old generation motocross racer (30 is pretty old in that game :p )
And one of the best pre-race jetting for the MX's is to get pretty close in practice and then add a more rich oil mixture or less rich oil mixture to get your jetting spot on.
BELIEVE IT OR NOT (ripley) :nervous:

When Amsoil first came out (yup, dating myself too) it was advertised as having the capability of running at ratio's as lean as 100/1. In fact, that was there recomendation at the time.
I was involved with a race team at the time, campaigning a twin track Ski Doo 340(dynoed at over 100hp.). I'm here to tell you it will run at 100/1. In the 3 years I was involved with the team, we never had an engine failure attribuable to the oil (or lack of it).
I would guess that Polaris is doing it's normal conservative thing when recomending the 32/1 mix.
50/1 is probably plenty safe with most any name brand oil
(and most others).

Michahicks do you still have the sled?

More oil = better ring sealing = more compression = more power - PERIOD.
The best power from most 2-strokes will come at an gas/oil ratio of 20:1 or even richer. I know this is hard for some people to believe, but it's true!
Running with a very rich oil ratio requires higher octane fuel (race gas) to keep from detonating though, so you might not want to try it at home.
As madsledhead said, you also will have to jet richer (fuel/air) with more oil, as extra oil leans out the carbs.
And....if your jetting is right, you won't have any fouling or other plug problems even using a lot of oil.
So........ProX02RACER....stick with 32:1 or richer, and you'll be happy!

I read an artcicle written on oil ratios, thought I do not recall where. Many ratios of oil/fuel were used.
If I recall, the most dyno proven power was at the 20:1 or 16:1 ratios, thus basically more oil=more HP. Better lube and cooler bearing is what I would contribute it to. Now the down fall is that on your sled you have powervalves, and you can run into a gumming issue.
IMO more oil can be like running more octane, it burns cooler, which effects the ability to clean the valves leaving more carbon.
Personally, we ues 40:1 on all our sleds running either amsoil products.
It is an easy ratio to recomend, as it is 1 quart to 10 gallons(US) of fuel, or half a quart (16ozs) to 5 gallons. You wont have any problems at that ratio.
