Hey guys,
I think I just found a good starter sled for my youngest daughter next year. A 94 MX 470.
Was wondering if there is anybody that has one that could give me some things to look for before I buy it.
Also, looking at the microfiche's, it doesn't have RAVE valves. Is this true?
Whats the hp on this sled.
I am looking for a good entry level sled. But not something so underpowered that you have to rev to 8000 rpm to keep up to the rest of the pack.
This will be her first year with a trail permit because she will be turning 12.
Thanks in advance

That was the sled my wife rode until 2 years ago. It was reliable, comfortable (relatively) great on fuel but a little bit of a dog. It will do fine on the trails but will have a hard time keeping up on the lakes. With that said, you didn't say how fast your group travels, this sled might be just fine ..... and with the rider being a junior, you really don't want a 100 mph sled right?
No, it doesn't have RAVE valves, I would guess the HP to be somewhere around 70.
Negatives, on bumpy trails the C7 suspension doesn't afford alot of travel, the cable brake is lame and the thing is front heavy.
Hope this gives you some insight.....
BTW, where are you located ?

Hey, thanks mike97Z
When I go out with the familly, we usually run a steady pace of 40 mph in the tight stuff, and 50-55 in the clear.
So you say it's a bit of a dog eh?
Down low does it have some "get-up and go". Studiying the microfiche this thing is geared 1.91 ratio. That must be somewhat torquey?
Can a reverse from a s-chassis fit the F chassis?
Once a again, thanks,
PS - I am in Eastern Ontario.

Then this sled will be just fine (speed wise)

Yup, dead at top end.

If I remember correctly the main differences between the F and the S chassis reverse kits is just the linkage coming back to the handle to shift it into reverse. The shifter handles come out on different angles between the two styles.I think this would be a good sled for a begginer.Had lots of the earlier MXs from 88-92 and the engines were great. On good conditions they would run around 90mph,lots fast enough to get you in a whole lot of trouble :D I bought a STX new in 94 (same chassis with 583) and I was dissapointed with the handling. We later added some ski-doo plastic ski's (non flex type)and the difference was unreal.
