I ride cats but a majority of the people i ride with are on srx's they are a thunderous tripple once tuned in 2001 was a damn good year my friend brians clutched and geared will consistantly run 120 on radar no comparison to my friends with there mxz twins. Actually my buddys with the mxz's will use brians srx when ice dragging and grass dragging. 2001 was a good year and after riding both the powerband of the srx is much better.Hold on when you punch that srx another good thing you may want to know is that they all have around 6000 miles no eng. problems as long as you keep up basic maint. grease, oil change ,power valve and you will not regret the switch.Just my .05 keep the change! :p :p SWRules SWRules

That SRX is an excellent sled, great power and accelleration. You wont find an mxz running with it unless it's modded. The ride isn't the best but it's a Yamaha need i say more :D Good luck with it and hope you have fun

SRX: Better engine (smoothness, power, longevity), better Handling

MXZ: Better ride

Which of these are more important to you?

The SRX rocks!! But mighty is right in that the MXZ will ride way better. The SRX can be tuned for the trails but not the big bumps. Now a set of Ohlins shock's will really make the SRX ride sweet. You could get them as a option on some year SRX does the one your looking at have them? They are for sale used alot also and from dealers etc. Well worth the money. I've no personal experiance but I've heard many people say the SRX needs the crank trued and welded if you pipe them and want your crank to last. The SRX has a sweet sound and awesome power. What price are you looking at.

I ride an SRX and spent a lot of time on an MXZ 700 and an MXZ 800 this season. The MXZ's ride better but the SRX is a far better performer on the smoothies. They corner like you wouldn't believe with almost no inner ski lift. A lot of people think the MXZ's would handle better because they are lighter but they don't even come close. Handling is about suspension geometry and the SRX has got it. The only problem is if you are always on the rough trails the yammi does ride like a brick! As for power the triple definately has smoother power. I run a '99 and it gets ahead of the MXZ 800 but not like the 01's. There were some major improvements for 00 and 01 on the SRX's. As far as welding the crank goes...thats only for 98 and 99 models, 00 or newer came out of the box with a welded crank.

The 00-02 had the cranks welded from the factory like the above guy said. They are reliable engines.I have 5600 miles on my 00 srx 700.Took the engine apart to port the cylinders and cut the heads.Checked the pistons, rings and cylinders and they hardly showed any wear.I honed the cylinders and put new rings in anyway but it really didnt need them.Like these guys said they handle great. For the ride you can do the Pioneer long travel kit or even swamp the shocks and transfer rods for viper or sx-r shocks. The srx is a lot beter on gas than the mxz and will always beat it in a race.

I dont agree with longevity and better handling.

A ZX will out handle a SRX any day of the weak. And as far as longevity goes, both makes and machines can go the long haul, just depends on how you take care of them. Ive seen plenty MXZs of all engines hovering around 20000km.

One thing the also think about. The sound of a piped SRX is hard to beat. Unless your an all out blood boiler and you get a Mach Z.

Stay away from a machZ, they can't beat a renegade :D

Sure they can. Put them on hard pack and its not even a RACE.

Out of the 4 races I had with permafrost I won one of them and I beat Lady K the first time we raced.

Not bad for a .88 track and a foot of fresh powder.

MACH Z's RULE.

Machzzzz you really think a mxz will out handle a srx on the trails. The susp.on the mxz is much better but from what ive ridden a 99srx and 2001 mxz the srx will outhandle it hands down.Must be our riding styles that makes this differ.Because the srx handles like a dream a top speeds on flat corners.!!

I agree that the srx will outhandle the mxz.(ONLY on smooth to moderate bumpy trails).I ride an mxz 600 and my buddy has an 2001 srx and that thing corners awsome. There is no ski lift what so ever and when you get on the throttle it will pull your arms off.But when we get in the big stuff, I say see ya later.I put the mbrp widening kit on and the AD bovine kit on the front of my mxz 600 and now it has no ski lift.(I couldn't believe it).Anyway, I know I am not comparing apples to apples here but if you want the power and such I would go with the SRX. :sly:

Your right on!! The srx needs flat trails but it does corner like a dream at high speeds and that is due to its lack of suspention. In the bumps that mxz would eat the srx alive. But the srx sounds 50 times better and i like that part also!!!!!!!!

If you love to drag race your buddies for fun, rip down groomed trails with everyone "behind you", and don't like second place...get the SRX!! nuf said.
