I was wondering if there was a can that would fit a '89 Mx 462??? What type would it be and how much would it cost? I am just wondering because i love the sound of them and looks like theres room to install one on my sled. Do i have to rejet? Thanks in advance.

Fast sold a can for these things way back when.No idea if they are still available or not but I'd take a look if you can find their website. They were pretty expensive back then(late 80s early 90s).I think they were more designed for the plus and the mach but they would fit your MX.

Hey thanks oldyeller. What about these cans i've seen on these revs and such. I probably sound like an idiot but i looked on my sled and it looks like one of these cans would fit rite in?? Looks like it will hook up fine as well. Eventually i will post a pic of my exhaust system while it is attached to my sled.

P.S. If anyone has the website for FAST cans please tell me! Thanks. :D SWRules

MX 462,

There are a few thing you should know concerning cans (mufflers). Early 467cc & 521cc motors in PRS (Progressive Reaction Suspension) chassis' shared the same single exhaust pipe components. The picture shows a typical PRS exhaust pipe or "Tuned Pipe". The reason they are called tuned is because the pipe's volume is tuned or speced to reduce fresh unburnt inlet fuel / air mixture from being sucked out the exhaust port when the piston uncovers it. The tuning is the ability of each exhaust wave (pulse) to travel through the pipe, hit the stinger (narrow part at the end of the pipe) and bounce back slowing down the unburnt gases from totally exiting the combustion chamber. This is called reversion, in theory this works out just fine, but when you attach a restriction (muffler can) downstream of the stinger the dynamics change. In most cases, manufacturers work on a comprimise between ease of build, packaging and sound level. After a few seasons the can's interiour becomes caked with oil - carbon residue or becomes burnt out from continued high speed operation (MachZZZZZ1 comes to mind). This also affects the operation of the complete system. In your quest for a new can, keep in mind, there are plenty of exhaust systems off larger displacement (cc) machines that will fit but don't offer any HP / Torque advantage because they are tuned (volume sized) for larger motors. This usually means they fit but are noisier than a good condition stock system.

Another problem with retrofitting exhaust components form larger machines is this:

Note the difference in inlet pipe diameters between the can for a 467 -521cc and a 583 - 617cc. The inlet pipe size for the smaller displacement motors is 1.5" (38.5mm) and 2.0" (51mm) for the larger mills. Without the correct reducer elbow (part which connects the end of the muffler to the can), you will encounter all kinds of fitment headaches.

Just wondering how you can tell in a picture that a can will fit on your sled? Especially one from a rev and such...

By the sounds of this sledd of yours, I would put as little money as posible into it. Save your money for something with less head aches. just do enough to keep it running.Wondering to do this and that to this sledd in my opinion isn't worth it.

Well, there are only a few out for the REV. Each one looks different from the other and sounds different.

HPS- Looks simular to the MBRP but all ceramic coated

PPP- Oval shaped and ceramic coated

MBRP- Stainless can with black tubing

DYNOPORT- Oval and all black

you want noise, just remove the stock can, and steal the pipe off the vacuum cleaner and walla lots of noise!!

thanks.

Rocketman : i know it sounded stupid but in my opinion the rev, they look like they have the same end that hooks up to the can, looks sortof like what i have on the mx, i'm just sayin it looks like it could hookup but all the port sizes are probably different.

Sawman: This sled dosnt cause alot of headaches, i just ask alot of questions to make sure i dont mess anything up, this is a very reliable sled, and it dosnt need alot to keep it running. The sled is mint and the motor has less than 500km's on it so theres no point saving up for another one when this one runs like new???
