The other day I pulled my 2000 MXZ 700 out of the garage, pulled the choke up and gave it a pull. It fired right up and I let it run on half choke for a min and then took the choke off completely. It was running great. I shut it off because I was going to get my stand so I could spin the track. Came back, put it on the stand, grabbed the pull handle and pulled. The first 1/4 of the pull was normal but after that I fell over. I thought I broke the cord because I heard a loud noise, but it didnt break. I pulled it again and it was pulling fine, but it won't start. I kept pulling and it started giving me a little put, put, but wouldn't run. Finally I hit the gas fast enough after pulling it and kept it running. It ran fine and idled fine by itself once it was running. I shut it off again and then it wouldn't start again. I didn't have time to mess with it, but when I went out thismorning and pulled it, it started right up. I put the choke on half way and walked to the other side of the garage to get my stand and it died. Now it won't run again. I pulled the plugs out and they were pretty black so I put some new ones in and still nothing. What else should I check?? What could be wrong?? Why all of the sudden like this?? As soon as I get someone else here I'm gonna have them pull it with my thumbs over the spark plug holes to check for compression. The spark plugs were a little wet when I took them out. What do you think happened?

UPDATE:
I took the plugs out today and they were very wet. I cleaned them and dried them, checked for spark (which there was because I accidently grounded myself  ) and put them back in. First I tried starting it with no choke. It wasn't kicking so I tried it with half choke. It gave a little sputter but that was it. Then I pulled it again and BOOM!!! The loudest backfire I have ever heard. Theres a nice carbon spot on my driveway where the exhaust was. After that I rolled it back in and put the cover on. I don't know what to do. It must have something to do with the timing, right? What should I check? Please Help!!

The problem probably centers around idling it too much. Fuel is probably accumulating in the exhaust and once it gets hot enough it is igniting causing a bang. If it rins fine, put it up on the stand and run it above idle speed until it is warmed up. If you are not comfortable with that, pull the exhaust and see if fuel pours out, or if the carbon in it is real wet to verify if this is the problem or not.

Sure sounds like a case of idling it too much, and not "cleaning it out". After all it is a carbuerated two stroke.

Yeah, you're probably right. I was doing some reading and I'm pretty sure that's what it is. Although, I really didnt idle it too long. I know you're not supposed to. But, how do I get it running? Do I have to take the carburators off and empty/clean them out or just take the exhaust off and see what's in there? Do I just keep pulling and hope it starts? I bought this a month ago and havent really had a chance to ride it hard for long periods of time. The previous owner was a woman who rode it easy and was always smoking belts. So, it wouldn't suprise me if the carburators were junked up a bit. BTW, where is the fuel cut-off switch on this thing or isn't there one? I looked all over. Thanks!

Pull out the plugs, and make sure the kill switch is off (so there is no spark) and pull it over a bunch of times, put in new plugs and it should fire up as long as it's dry enough. I dont think that sled has a fuel shutoff, if the motor is full of fuel, the inlet valve to the carb(s) are probably sticking open which would require dis-assembly and cleaning to correct.

There isn't a fuel shut off valve on your 7Mixer, Bombi decided they don't need one?????????? Also, make sure the tether is making a good connection. Another thing to look at: The 2000 700s are prone to having
the mag side crank bearing go bad--mine did in February, BUMMER!!
You can have your dealer run the VIN to see if it had been recalled for
the fix. If it hasn't, it may pay to tear it down and check it out. Not a
pleasant thing to do, but better to do it now and be certain than be out
riding and have it go FUBAR (f***** Up Beyond All Recognition).
It's a great ride, I love mine, just keep the carbon cleaned out of it.
Also, if you're not using synthetic oil, start. The RAVEs don't carbon up
nearly as much as petro based.........
