I have an '85 Formula MX 463cc liquid cooled. It' very new to me and i have a few questions about it.
1. Is there some sort of "radiator" that snow is flung onto that cools the motor? hve folowed the hoses and i see that they go t the tunnel area of the sled...butim stumped after that.
2. How do i drain and flush the cooling system?? Its looking a bit chunky. :0:
3. what are the advantages of haveing a liquid cooled sled ayway. I seem to have overheating problems when the snow isnt real deep and i am operating at slower speeds. Any ideas
Thanks.

There are aluminum heat exchangers mounted to the underside of the tunnel. The coolant heats these & the snow from the track hits the fins on the exchanger cooling the antifreeze.
If the coolant is crummy that could cause you problems. A 60% antifreeze/40% water mix is what you want to mix when you refill your system. I can't really say what you should do to flush the system of the "crap" that's in it. Maybe one of the other members will post a suggestion.
Not sure about how to go about flushing it, but you will have to raise the front of it to purge the air out of the heat exchangers inside the tunnel otherwise you will have overheating problems.

I have one of those. In fact brought it new. In order to flush it take the rubber hose loose that sits below the exhaust manifold. Then take the rubber hose loose that is attached to the engine head. There are two connections there. One is routed to the supply tank and the other to the cooling radiator located under the tunnel. Attach your water hose to it and let it rip. If the sled been setting around for a long time you might check under the tunnel and see how clean the radiators are. :p

There are a few commercially available flush kits which will do the trick for you. The most popular is Prestone which comes with adaptors to connect with your garden hose. Be sure that the flush additive you use is aluminum safe, ditto for the antifreeze. Disconnect the hose at the front of the motor (waterpump), remove the thermostat and install the adaptor on the upper hose. Use lots of clean water then suck the remainder out with a wet / dry vacuum. I mix the ratio as REVRND said 40 / 60 but use distilled water in the blend as some city / county / well water has minerals which corrode or coke up cooling system. Be sure to check the condition of all your rubber hoses, if in doubt replace, cheap insurance on a trip.
enjoy :sly:
