: Who To Get The Impeller Off The Shaft?
Snowmad 05-05-2003, 05:20 PM No i have found a coolant leak from the wather pump!
Its just a drop every 3:d day so i have not had to do any refilling, but i cant stand it.
And it is not going to gett better, so why not fixit now!
Question: ;)
How do i do to take the aluminum impeller off fhe shaft? (I have loosend the center bolt.)
The seal is behind the impeller, so i it has to come off!
The engine is still in the snowmobile.
By the way, he who is drowning the waterpump cower boults in locktite, he is not a good gay!
Darrylthenewf 05-05-2003, 07:40 PM I don't know if that impeller comes off the shaft. Check out this sit to see if it lists the items separetely.

Snowmad 05-06-2003, 02:13 AM It is a separate item!
But how to get it off the shaft?
???
Is it posible whithout removing the oilpump,
and taking the ZRT600 engine out?
Snowmad 05-06-2003, 10:56 AM It was "frozen" by rust !I removed the oilpump, placed another bolt in the shaft, tapped gently on it with a hammer and the impeller came loose!
:D
ponycmr 05-06-2003, 07:25 PM i went through this this winter with my zrt if it is leaking to the outside it is the o-ring on the pump cover the seal behind the impeller keeps it from going into the engine....and don't make the same mistake the persone who tore my sled apart before me did and not make sure the shaft gear is aligned with the gear on the crank...it will lead to a bent water pump shaft ???
94ZR580 05-07-2003, 05:34 PM I found the same thing when trying to replace the water pump seals on my 580 this winter. I had the motor out of the sled because I needed another opinion on what I discovered, but when I took the motor to the shop for a pressure test the tech got the impeller off in a matter of seconds. The method he used was to apply a liitle heat to it. Try threading the bolt in a few turns and giving it a light tap with a hammer, then using a propane torch give it a little heat and gently pull on it with long nose pliers. Like my dealer told me, it is a ##### to get at if you leave the motor in the sled.
tunedbyear 05-07-2003, 08:54 PM did mine this winter. the water pump seal comes in 2 pieces. one in impellar, other in case and shaft. don't put anything on ceramic and plastic surfaces. there is a weep hole between pump seal and crank case seal. probably where coolant is coming from. if you took shaft out change inner seal too.i also put silicone on cover where oring is. when i installed cover i used regular bolts. filled tapered holes with silicone also. long time dealer told me to take 12 bars leak pellets and smash up real good or small bottle of pre ground and put in system after filling. put in where pressure cap is. this help possible leaks later and lube water pump.worked for me.
katmanzrt600 05-07-2003, 09:13 PM :( , dont know if i agree with puttin bars stop leak into my hi-performence 2stroke engine, i had same problem with my 96 zert600, just change everything, impeller,sealsetc.. never a leak after that, all that stop leak does is get all into your heat exchangers, maybe not a problem now but if you plan on keepin sled a while, then.......... just my 2 cents worth... ???

Personally, I would never put that junk in any motorized vehicle. It tends to reduce your heat-transfer ability due to the film it leaves; and many of them, including Bars-leaks, soften rubber components and shortens their life.
katrider800 05-09-2003, 09:03 PM I sell heavy-duty truck/trailer parts, and my company sells Bars-leaks products. Their stuff works well in big diesels that have a 10 to15 gallon cooling system,as does the many other sealing/conditioning items that they make. However, 12 pellets??? in a snowmobile engine???to help lubricate the water pump???Not a chance in mine!!Just maintain your sled and run good, properly mixed coolant, and check for leaks often. If you discover a leak fix it.Modern coolants have all the additive packages already in them to keep your system mint. Everybody has an opinion, and mine is that if MY dealer gave me that advice----it would be time to find a new dealer!!!
