: New Sled
sweetmachz 05-25-2003, 07:06 PM Hi guys I'm new to the sport and looking to buy a new sled.I will be doing alot of ditchbanging, lakeriding.some trail and deep snow.I was looking at the xc600,mxz,sabercat,viper.Any help would be great thanks for your help. :)
CORY9 05-25-2003, 07:25 PM Welcome to the site.
Your post leaves a lot to be defined.
You are saying, that basically you ride all situations?
If there is one thing I have learned , it's that you can't have your cake and eat it too. A more realistic definition is in order. Do you have a favourite sled? Like the way one looks? How do you ride 90% of the time? Are you looking for a two up or are you riding on your own?
There is incredible knowledge on this site and I'm sure we can help you out. :D :D SWRules
MXZ Renegade 600 HO SDI. That is all i have to say.
paul yarek 05-25-2003, 07:52 PM M1,
welcome to the site, Cory pretty much laid it all out for you.
when you get out of the witness protection program you can put in your location. :)
Good2Go 05-25-2003, 08:15 PM LOL Paul. Dont worry M1 he does that to everybody.
M1. Welcome to the site, it is a great source of information, operated by Corey, who keeps everything in order and is doing a great job at keeping this website clean and informative. Hope you find it very useful.
I would have to agree with CORY9 on this one. It depends on what you are doing the majority of the time. Do you ditchbang more than lake run? Are you in deep snow more than you are on the traiL? etc...
Also depends on what look you like better? Yammie, cat, doo, polaris. I know for a fact you will get MANY different opinions on what sled is better, reliable, faster, etc....
What year of sled are you looking at? I know the XC600 in '95,'96,'97? had some crank problems.
My suggestion would be the Rev-Renegade as well. You will find out that two of our members on this site (Permafrost and Machzzzz1) raced they're MXZ-Renegade 800cc paddle track against a new Mach Z 800 and the Renegade beat it in all different sorts of sprints and long-distance runs.

sweetmachz 05-25-2003, 08:17 PM sorry not trying be dreamer.I live in saskatchewn, and have some friends that live in alberta close to the mountains.I really like xc600. but I just want to find a sled that is a good all round in a one up sled :)
paul yarek 05-25-2003, 08:19 PM M1,
with the location you are from then the others from that area can best help your decision.
Good2Go 05-25-2003, 08:21 PM M1, the XC600 is a nice sled, what year are u looking at?
sweetmachz 05-25-2003, 08:21 PM sorry that would be the 2004 xc600it looks really sweet :inlove:
Good2Go 05-25-2003, 08:25 PM Go for it. They do like nice. Polaris did a good job for 2004.
catkid 05-25-2003, 08:50 PM if you go polaris wait till 05, theres gonna be something big and new, 04 was just a carryover with new graphics. The rev is a good sled, but ride one for at least a day to make sure you like the ergos. Personally i like the firecat, and i admit that i may be a little brand biased, but the F6 is a rocket, and with the EXT you can go deep too.
good luck
I would still go for the Renegade. But if you really want the Polaris i would get a Pro X. just my 0.2cents
its all about prefrence buddy, i am a cat man, but that doesnt mean the firecat is for u. go with what u want, not what the other guys want u to get. SWRules
straycat 05-26-2003, 07:35 AM ride them all, and get what you feel,

M1, we've got a few members from Sask. & Manitoba. Kbxsrx is about the only member I can think of from Alberta.
Rocketman 05-26-2003, 08:39 AM How often do you hit the rockies? Often enough for a long track sled? For riding SK, a 136 track would suit you fine. You might even look at polaris's SKS as well. The firecats also have a somewhat longer track on them. But if you don't ride the mountains all that much, then pick your favorite colour ;)

I would have to agree here. My '96 XCR600 has the 133.5" track with 1.5" lugs, and my experience with it so far has deemed it the title of a decent multipurpose sled (engine size and track size, not necessarily brand wise). It's decent in the powder (about 18-20 inches of fresh fluff), good on the trails, and acceptable acceleration (by my standards...). I like it, but I haven't ridden anything newer to compare it against.

liquid600 05-26-2003, 09:45 AM XC 500 or 600 will do just fine.
sweetmachz 05-27-2003, 05:47 PM thanks everyone for your help . :D
94ZR580 05-27-2003, 06:21 PM What part of Sask. are you from? I'm from P.A. There are a great many of moutain sleds around here. Lots of guys like them for the fields and lakes and find them to do just fine on the trails. Lot of the people that I know who went to long track sleds did it for the ride as much as for the floatation and traction. The longer suspension bridges the smaller bumps. If you are going to run a 2" track it can limit your riding because you need wait until there is enough snow to avoid damaging the track.
A long track sled is probably the best choice on the prairies. It is great for running the fields and can work well enough on the trails. Some mountain sleds can be had with wide front ends, Arctic Cat LE models, and most are making crossover machines now, Renegade, SKS and EXT. If was in the market for a new sled my first choice would be an F7 EXT.

That is P. A., which is short for Prince Albert. Located on the beautiful forest fringe of Saskatchewan, Canada. In the snowmobile world we might also be known as Blairmorganville :D
