Ok, so how much power, sled lenghts, do you guys think will be lost with mechanical reverse?
What clutching or gear changes could be made to compinsate if any?

what sled and how is it set up now? are you going to add this to your sled? if so, are you asking how it will affect the sled's performance just by putting on the machanical reverse?
i had a 98 zrt 600, i put reverse on the sled, and i lost nothing at all, never changed gears and the extra 10 pds if it was that much made no difference, plus it was some nice having it and i kinda miss it cause o dont have reverse on my zr800 but may put it on this yr.

As the others said, you should not have to do anything any different than what you allready have. One of the problems that I seen was that allmost every sled that came into the shop that I was working at, that had a problem with the mechanical reverse, was due to the 3 little pins that drive the drive shaft off of the reverse gear. If you ride hard you will want to keep an eye on these pins

I put reverse on my Flll 800 before I ever rode it so I dont know if I ever had a power loss. I know it is rotating weight so I would think some kind of noticeable loss would be there just like adding studs or a paddle track "more rotating weight".
mxzwfo, I had the whole chaincase off changing tracks and inspected everything well. I found no wear on the pins but a little on the small gear teeth inside edge. My guess is from engaugement a little too quick?
Reverse is GREAT! This is my first and will never be without it again!
If you have never had it you cant believe the trouble it gets you out of let alone the back pain it saves. I have one of those carts to haul the sled around in the garage that I dont even use anymore and I just back the sled out the 4' wide service door to go for a ride.
