Hello:

I have an 800 REV here and a guy wants to know what the legal measurement is for squish on this engine.
I have no clue and I do not know where to get such kind of information.

Is the legal minimum squish for a 440 @ .046 or .047?

thanks

Legal? Ithink if your talkin ISR its no machining, I`ve wondered too where they draw the line as far as this is too dam close. Somebody correct me if I`m wrong....obviously it would take some nasty hash marks to be convicted of machining.

Well there are different thickness of basegasket.

Ive measured 440 cylinders with a #3 basegasket that are actually #3 thickness and seen some cyls with .050" or more and one right down at .042"

Now this person with the .042" cannot run legally. Head is not shaved...that is stock.
So he would have to install a thicker gasket to make .046" to be legal in an ISR race if they did a squish check.

800's? I dunno.

Joe,

form the race booklet:

440 2002-2003: .046 +/- .012

non HO 800 2003: .070 +/- .016

HO 800 2003: .053 +/- .016

ALL VALUES IN INCHES

So D J would that be my 440 with the .042 squish using the #3 base gasket????? Hmmmmm

Just got off the phone with Yvon from the Race Shop in Valcourt and his specs were as follows. Pretty much the same as GLH's

If (1mm = 39.4 thou (.0394))
& .1mm = apprx 4 thou then

800 Rev ---- 1.78mm + / - .4mm
1.78mm = .070132 +/- .01576

600 HO ---- 1.2 mm + / - .4 mm same as 99 on
1.2mm = .04728 +/- .01576

2001 440 ---- 1.1mm + / - .3mm
1.1mm = .04334 +/- .01182

don't shoot me if the math isn't adding up, in a hurry to get to a meeting.
There is quite a huge variance here to play with so my 42 thou is legal by Skidoo standards hell I could drop more and get up over 200lb's comp from the 190's now (cold motor with snap on gage)

GLH:

440 2002-2003: .046 +/- .012

This means I could be:
as low as .034
as high as .058

Rhubarb...what meeting?
You guys still playing Dungeon's N Dragons at work?
...new playboy book in the bathroom?
...KFC delivery arrived?
...that hot 20 yr old chick student is having lunch on the picnic table outside again?

If you can believe it a QUALITY meeting seeing as Quality is job #1, even though the 20 yr old on the table feeding me KFC and reading Playboy articles sounds better. :hallo1:

And yes from what I've been told and understand you can have the squish be in that range, you are within the "production specs" of the motor.
The rules will state you can not have double base gaskets but with Skidoo having differet gaskets for each machine you can vary the squish using them & they will be hard done by to prove it did not come in the sled. I'll have to dig out a new rule book and check it out again I haven't read it in awhile. Call Chris Bedard from COSDRA and have him send a book the # is on the web www.cosdra.com
Just have to be sure it is helping by trying different thicknesses with diff. fuel.
It is basically the same as cutting the cylinder deck on other brands and using the same gasket to get you to the lower spec.

Gotta run again it's quitin time
