Im planning to change my sled engine with something really diffrent. So it will need very diffrent clutching setup Can someone help or tell me? I plan to turn an old cougar into a 4 stroker. One of my engine choice is a suzuki 1300cc 4cyl twin cam efi. The sled will be trail riddend only. The spec of this engine is 100 hp @ 6500 rpm and have 83.2lb-ft of torque at 5000 rpm. It red line stock at 6800 rpm. I would like to be able to cruise at 60 mph at around 3500-4500 rpm. Is it possible to do? What is the weight will I need in the clutch or spring setup? Should I look in setup done for smaller engine that rev at only 3600rpm max?(briggs/honda tecums...) I would like to have a starting line. The clutch can have a really low engaging speed with the torque that engine have the sled should move easily. :withstupid: :D

oh man,.......first queston, is the 1300 suzuki motor off of a gsxr? was it an earlier gsxr 1100 bored out to 1300? if it is, the redline is way above 6800 rpm's, maybe double that. second....how do you plan to drive this motor in a sled? i mean the clutching aspect. how are you planning to get a direct drive motorcycle engine into a sled, where a clutching drive system would be your question? i'm honestly not at all trying to be arrogant, i just need a little more help in exactly what is involved. the way i interpret your previous post, it is not at all possible to do. that is why i ask for more info, because if it can work, oh boy. i just need a little more info. :D :D
The engine is from a car...Suzuki Swift Gt. all aluminum twin cam 16 valves. I have a friend who is a machinist so he will be able to built me the starter adapter. Starter is fixed on the transmission on the car so since I dont need the transmission I will fix it on the bellhousing. He will also machine the adapter for me to be able to fix the clutch to the engine. Just like the cat 4 stroker touring. I will also check if the adapter of the cat 4 stroke could fit the twim cam crankshaft end. :D I know the project looks funny but I must to give it a try. If it doesnt work I will simply bolt back the little 440lc back and put the twim cam in a suzuki samourai 4x4. I cant afford a new 4 stroker
and it will cost me not alot to built one. 300-400$ for a donor car...add the same amount for the bit and pieces...and should have it done for under 1000$. Im looking for the 4 stroke reliability for long distance ride.
Those engines came from factory with forged crankshaft and pistons and are quite thought. So it should be able to move my a$$ around.
Engine is also quite compact so I should be able to fit inside the afs cougar. Dimensions around 20 to 24" Only big time I will have (I think) will be the oil pan mod required to lower the engines at a maximum.

Back in the early 90's about 91 or 92 or so...there was a guy in Minneapolis who used to make ROTARIS sleds.
Rotax powered Polaris sleds. Well the last time I seen his works in action was an Indy 500 Liquid chassis with Suzuki Sprint engine installed. [3 cyl non-turbo]
When it idled you could barely hear it run. Cannot really remember the exh configuration, but it was quiet.
He had a primary off of a Yamaha sled with some 80g flyweights. Stock polaris secondary.
At 5500 rpm, the sled would do 85 mph.
I have pics of it somewhere....
Umm, for the flyweights if you were going to use a "P" or "AC" style clutch, u might want to contact Gerrard Karpik at FAST. Gerrard has flyweights made up to 150 or 170 grams each. "cannot remember exactly"
He got them made from Tungsten. They are used in the BLADE sled which has an S&S Harley Davidson engine.

:) Hello.
Ski-Doo made the Alpine with a 4-stroke engine as an option in a cupple of years in the early 90's !
Polaris has also made a model with a 4-stroke engine 1990 Supertrack 4-stroke
This winter i've seen a Yamaha V-max 4 chassi with an V8 engine !
( 2 Honda VF 500 F Engines put togheter )
And in my home town the local Police build 3 funny sleds in 1998
They put in a V2 1000cc EFI Magnesium ( Husaberg ) motor in their Arctic Cat Bearcat WT!
This sleds goes FAST !!!
Hey dynamo...If you have those pic please email them to me or pm me.I did thought about putting the 3 cyl engine but its a ugly engine. And thought that it would not go much faster than the 660 cat (non-turbo). Im still looking to find the engines. Will see what I will find first. I found a 1.6l 16 valve single cam but the engine is quite big and It will not fit. My first choice is the 1.3 twin cam...but if I find a 3 cyl I may give it a try. I will keep you informed on the project. :)
