Before I put my sled in storage for the winter, I noticed my sled's performance degrading a little bit. Ordinarily it would top out around 8000 rpm, but toward the end of the riding season, it would only get to 7700 or 7800 rpm. What are some of the common causes for this condition, or where i should begin looking for the problem? I bought an EPI clutch kit, but I don't want to attempt putting that in until I can diagnose and fix any problems on my stock clutch setup.
Thanks in advance!

Assuming your jetting is in line with temp. and pressure changes, sounds like your primary spring is sagging out. I change my clutch springs every year. Its a cheap way to keep clutches in tune. Always keep a clutch clean, and inspect bushings for wear, and make sure your arms and rollers move freely. This applys to both clutches. Theres no such thing as to clean! Just my $.02 plus GST.

i would try a new belt. depending on your riding style, it may have gone bad. check the belt deflection first, easy fix. :D keep us posted.

check the belt out, it may be worn out. also check the belt deflection to make sure it is correct. that's the first thing i would check, easy fix :D keep us posted.

does everyone agree? If so, I'll go buy some new springs.

most definatley your springs. get a more agressive spring and change out weights and ramps. not sure of what exact one's. had my sled clutched last winter
1999 mxz 600 and made a big difference. hard pulls after 40MPH. she loves rolling starts :inlove:
