Does anyone know what the difference is between the 800 and the 800 HO?

Did skidoo make more HP through cluchting or motor mods?

SKI-DOO claims 7 more h.p. on the H.O. model. Bringing it up to 140h.p

The HO engine's only difference (engine wise) is a higher exhaust port. All else is the same.

Didn't they use different reeds and cage also?

:( You can't make more power in the motor through clutching !! :(

You have to machining the jugs, if it's possible !

thankyou, I'm quite aware you can't make more hp through clutching....

However, you can improve available hp through your clutching. The last advertisement I saw said:

"The Rotax 800 powered the Summit to the highmarks all winter long with it's seven percent power surge."

This doesn't tell me that just the motor made the extra Hp? I would be curious to know how much of that came from clutching?

ski doo i agree the cats make more hp but dont put it to the ground!! ski doo makes less and puts it to the ground

P.S I.E clutching

Keith,

yes the reed cage is different but that is a bolt on item and IMHO not considered part of the engine internals.

The HO engine does make some good power BUT the standard engine can be modified via porting to make the same or more power.

The HO stil has piston and ring issues and a VERY lousy head. All they did was deck the head to .038" squish clearance and call it a new head. This head is prone to detonation and will not live on low octane fuel at low elevations.

The reeds help very little IMHO. the power is in the porting.

I like that!

Well, I don't really consider the petals and cage part of the internals either, but I guess I thought that they were part of the excuse for calling it an HO.

And I always thought the HO stood for "Has Oomph!!" or Hold Out for more mods. :D

If it's Hold Out for more mods There should be a big HO on all my toys. :p

Don't you also get alittle more power by uping the compression

Actually you get a little more power from efficient combustion. Raising the compression is not always the key to making more power / torque. Raise the compression too high and you'll hear about it. snap crackle pop!! :nervous:

yeh i agree that a 7hp gain is not alot but enough to make a difference. i have a couple friends that have a 01 xc 800 and the other has the 02 xc 800-. aparently the 02 has 2 more hp. Sopposedly they have different pistons in the 02 and they saved like 10 pds somehwere on the sled.

is it true that 10 pds is about the same as 1 hp gain?

Compression works on some engines mine happens to like
it,alot.165 lbs cold after three pulls, 162 hot .I seen 170 + on new rings
(which happens every 2000 miles cause of upper ring land
wear. The 711 d.d. power is the best money I ever spent it flat out
rocks.. It is e.f.i. to boot with a 5700 rpm engage in trail form and
its ready for battle.Whal bro disc, gear and shaft with "500" decals
on the hood and one fat single pipe to handle the fumes through a
stock muffler .It`s a sleeper in every way ,I only hope my new firecat
will live up to this baby .This set up will give the big boys head spins
as it wins over 90 percent of the time in a 1000 ft run .it best mph in 1000
is 114 mph . It will take alot more than a H.O. to ruin my day as it only
got 500 on the hood.......................what do I have lose racing a bigger sled..

So do you race in the 500 class with that sled? When you get your f7 are you going to put f5 stickers on it? ???

Caper711- IF your 140 hp 711 ever did go 114 mph in 1000' than you WILL be sorely disappointed in the F7, a ZR900 and a 1000 TCAT wont put up those numbers-BJ

disclaimer- in trail trim.

As for the original post- the 800HO in a 2004 chassis will out run a 2003 800 pretty bad- BUT this accounts for the new motor AND better chassis- stock clutching will be similar-BJ

Here's what makes the "HO" in the 800HO... 1.8mm higher exhaust ports, 12 petal double V reed cage, reed spacers, 12.0 to 1 compression heads, new pistons. The head has improved cooling passages. This is more than just decking the heads a few thou's.

So.... It's the same bore (82 mm), and same stroke, (75.7 mm) then. I presume it's the same crank as well? Anyone know the rod length?
