I am looking for a boat that i can fish off of and also water ski behind, something not that old, but also not new. you know what i mean. the father inlaw has a lund with i believe a 60 hp motor on it. If you guys have suggjestions on what to look for please let me know. Also if you have any links with pictures or pictures that would be great. you see all the names in the news paper or in ads and have no idea what they are. thanks

heres a website for a great variety of "Ranger" boats. It gives you pics of all new boats but atleast it will give you some idea of what your looking at.

If you are wanting to both fish and ski with this boat I would look primarily for a ski boat with an open bow, and a V hull. To me closed bow is wasted space, but if you like to fish, it is plenty open to do just that. If you want to ski, you would want a shallow hull, unless you are wanting to wake board (please say no) then you would want a deep hull for the bigger waves. I've been water skiing for over 15 years, it is by far my most favorite pasttime sport. My dad has an old 15 ft, V-Hull, Silverline with an 80 Hp outboard Mercury engine. The boat is barely strong enough to get me out of the water with the flagger and driver in the boat, however I'm a big guy, 230 pds 6'5" tall. I'm wanting to get an inboard boat with minimal wake behind it. This type of boat would be along the competition lines of a Ski Nautique, Mastercraft and even the more affordable Moomba boats. I will not go for a wake board line as I hate wakes. Nothing irritates me more than being out on a glass lake and someone out there chopping it up with one huge wake (sorry wake board guys!)

The Lund boat you mentioned seems to me that it is primarily a fishing boat type of company. Ranger boats, well I've never seen anything but fishing boats from them.

My feelings are this, you can fish from any boat, just how conveniently or effectively you want to is up to you, however you will not be able to ski off of all of them. I would go for a ski boat that gives you in the neighborhood of at least 150 HP, but that is just me as my dads 80 HP is effective for what I use it for as well, my problem now is that my slalom skills are starting to suffer since the boat can't pull me behind it faster than 34 mph, I need more speed to improve. You could check into inboard outboard boats. Those are nice and effective as well, at least some are. The more people you want to haul around and play around with, the more HP you will need.

If you have more questions, I might be able to help. I have been boating for years, but I'm not much if at all into fishing.

I would look for a Lund or Crestliner with something in the range of 115 HP. We have a 1750 Lund Tyee and it works great for both fishing and skiing. Its more of a fishing boat then skiing, but we do quite a bit of that and kneeboarding behind it. For an engine it has a 130 HP inboard. If you look at inboards make sure to stay away from the 4 cylinder inboards and get a 6.
