: 57% show their location
paul yarek 11-04-2001, 01:52 PM there has to be a reason why only 57% of our members show their location, of the 57% most are quite vague. i looked at mine and it was southern ontario so changed it to brantford, southern ontario others quite vague were like ohio or nh. i think it is neat when you see a member close to your home and i think the same must be for others. another thing i noticed was 18% showed their email address. is their a reason why information is so vague ?
paul, for some reason the transition to the new forum made everybody's e-mail private so only the people that took time to go in there control panel and change there e-mail so it would not be private can be seen ! for the location being so vague i guesse everyone is free to post where they live some just dont want people to know where there sled's are...
paul yarek 11-04-2001, 09:22 PM danr, you mean the thieves ?
well i guesse some might be scared after investing alot of money on a new sled and mods, we talked about this in a post about 2-3 months ago and most thought that i was just not important to post there location. I personly dont mind posting where i live and would like to know if someone lives close to me.! *:)
Do the Doo 11-06-2001, 09:18 AM I have to agree with the both of you guys. It's where do we draw the line? I listed Boston, but any body from Boston also now this includes the bordering towns (7 -10 towns). You hear about how some people meet over the internet and someone is either robbed or killed. Having a 13 month old baby (first child) and two brand new sleds, I worry and try to be very cautious of whom I am speaking too. There are a lot of *imposters out there who do take advatage of the "nice guy next door" or the innocent. *ie. Anthrax, I think this is an imposter taking full advantage of the US being scared of terrorism. But that is just my gut feeling. I hope I am very wrong on this huntch..... *
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * Doo
paul yarek 11-11-2001, 09:42 PM hey do the doo you are right about meeting over the internet and who knows what could happen. my neighbours wife met a guy from ohio on the net and now instead of 2 children she has 3, one made in the USA.
toydoc 11-12-2001, 07:14 PM I just reset my info. I did't know it had reset with the change. Should we post to tell members to check your Control Panel and make sure its set the way you want?
toydoc 11-12-2001, 07:30 PM You guys can stop in any time and check out the garage. I'm not to worred about safety, my wife is a red head, and what they say about red heads is true, some times it's not safe for ME to go in the house!!!
Beware Of Wife
She may hurt someone....
oh yah, we met at work and everyone called her TAZ!
You would think that would have been a clue!!!!
toydoc, my ex is a redhed, i dont think ill even go close to your place... http://www.snowmobileworld.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif
BUTCH800 11-14-2001, 11:39 PM toydoc, my wife's a redhead too. So I know what you mean. I think whoever wrote the phrase....." I live with FEAR everyday.....Sometimes she lets me race" that guy must have lived with a redhead also. http://www.snowmobileworld.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif
toydoc 11-15-2001, 07:14 AM Butch, funny you should say that, because That is the only decal on my truck! *:D *:D
PowderBoy 11-17-2001, 03:55 PM Funny that you are talking about all of this. I would have never really thought about that. Sleds are one of the easiest things to steel and get away with. When I was young I started out on an 89' jag. My father had a brand new 89' Wildcat 650. We were in old forge for a couple of days and nobody ever worried about leaving there sleds out in the open... hell because of the low variety of keys it didnt matter. woke for the last day of riding and his sled was gone. Nothing special about that one and everybody had one so what were we supposed to do... stop everyone who had an 89' 650. That was a hot sled and everybody had one. My sleds are tight away in my garage and I dont usually worry about them. The axle on my trailer is locked to steel pipe in the ground. I live on Long Island and I havent found many people from Long Island on here. All of us hear have to drive to snow anyway. It would be nice to meet some guys around here and get some trips going. I am still up for a Northeast snowmobileworld ride in. But I dont see that being a big sucess.
paul yarek 12-04-2001, 07:16 PM this topic is woke up again so i thought i would get it off of the back pages.
morocco_mole 12-04-2001, 07:39 PM Unless you're from a very tiny town there should be no worries. Your exact address is not listed. People just have to use common sense when meeting or talking to anyone over the internet. We are all grown-ups. If you still don't feel comfortable then don't fill it out, it's optional.
It's that simple.
revrnd 04-17-2002, 02:23 AM Morocco: What's the sleding like in your part of Alberta? A friend of mine from here in Ontario has lived in the Strathmore/Airdrie areas for the past 10 years the sledding is the biggest thing his misses down there. Where he grew up north of Apsley, he could ride from his parents farm.
Speaking of locations, a person could just put in the largest town or city nearby. Other than Mr. Yarek, all of us use nicknames so it's pretty hard to find us in the phone book http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/withstupid.gif
paul yarek 04-17-2002, 02:30 AM revrnd,
*mr.yarek ? i'm probably younger than you. *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif
revrnd 04-17-2002, 02:42 AM I turned 40 last October, where's that put you? http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Or does my wealth of knowledge make me seem older than my years *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

revrnd 10-11-2002, 01:03 AM Corey, what are the stats now? I checked out a topic earlier tonight & people were suggesting the original poster to check out a certain shop. None of the posters had their locations listed. I don't want to sound like a :cussing: but if I live in Ontario & looking to get registration #s cut, does it make sense for a member in VT to tell me to call a graphics shop in Brattleboro? They could say for members in the area that so & so cuts numbers.
Also, shipping parts back & forth across the border for an individual can be a real pain. I know, been there done that. I really enjoy paying 2 different Customs brokers around 40 bucks each to push some paper.
Sorry for what could be taken as a rant.
I don't know what the stats are, I didn't come up with the orginals either. I will check to see what I can do though.
revrnd 10-11-2002, 09:34 PM Corey, don't waste your time doing that, it sort of was a rhetorical question. If I ask for a supplier in the southern Ontario area, a reply from Montana isn't going to be much help to me.
I'll get off my high horse now.
paul yarek 10-11-2002, 11:09 PM i forget how i determined that 57% it is but i'll look at it again and post it.
revrnd 10-12-2002, 12:00 PM Paul, you've got wayyy too much time on your hands :D
mnmsnowbeast 10-12-2002, 05:41 PM Hi everyone iam from the east,in waterboro,Maine had a crapy year for sleding 01-02 hope its better this season, iam excited to try the new rx1 i own now, my xc800 was getting old good in bumps bad on flat and twisty trails and slow on top compared to my 99 xcr800 mod. hope this one works out better,so far it has 112 miles on it and getting better every mile now,a little clutching and gearing really helps to,well enough said will be heading to epping tomorrow, its going to be screwey cause they cancelled alot of classes today,RAINE sucks for sleding period.
paul yarek 10-12-2002, 08:33 PM revrnd,
just who is calling the kettle black ? :blahblah: anyways i looked on the first page of the members list and there is only 20% with locations.
z800rotax 10-14-2002, 07:06 PM What do you consider a location?Town included with province/state ???
I'm just afraid paul is gonna show up at my door and drink all my beer :0: :p
PowderBoy 10-15-2002, 02:31 AM I put Long Island on Mine b/c If i wrote Huntington, NY i dont think anyone would know where that is in geogaphical sense to NY... If there are any LI'ers on here then i will be more then happy to let them know where i am.... I cant belive this topic is back up... a tear took my eye when i read about my dads 650... i reallu loved that machine hahaha :(
ARCTICZRT600 10-15-2002, 08:39 AM I think it is better to show your actual location. I think the small town names speak volumes and make you unique. Just my .02
SNOWFREAK 10-17-2002, 02:22 AM For those of you worried about the "thieves" send them to my neck of the woods. I live in COP LAND (Brandon, South Dakota) and I am also in law enforcement. I have never in my life seen soooooooo many off duty police officers in one town/ with the exception of the movie COPLAND (Sylvester Stallone).... :hallo5: off w/ their heads!! (the thieves of course)
revrnd 10-17-2002, 05:50 AM Welcome to Snowmobile World Snowfreak  SWRules
