Do those coating help performance or does it just keep temp slighly lower?

From what I understand, the coating keeps the internal heat in the pipe up. This helps in the scavaging of the cylinders. A plus is, they do keep under hood temps down too :D .

The coatings also reduce the chance of cracking a pipe from thermal shock when snow / water ingestion through the hood vents. If its water ingestion, that may be the least of your problems... glug glug glug :D
