: Picking Your ?
1BADZR 07-28-2003, 09:55 PM Hello everybody is it winter time yet,,,,,,Iam dying here.......
anyway,,,,is it good or bad to pick a track right under the slide rails ? will this put to much pressure on the stud and be more pron to riping out of the track, or will it plant the stud (nicer) in the frozen stuff? any feed back would be great fully appreciated,,,, the sled is an f-7 already picked but he wants to add more and he wants them in every other window under the slides.
Thanks, Jay
Auggie 07-29-2003, 08:19 PM Man, he must be thinking of using "push-through's: I guess the only thing you would have to worry about is hi-fax wear. If you could polish the stud so it won't dig into the hi-fax at the allen wrench hole it might work. Why not install a couple on each side and try it. If you do this let us know how it works.

1BADZR 07-29-2003, 11:02 PM Push throughs for sure Auggie,,,,,,,I think were gonna try it this season, thanks for the feed back
jdsmi 07-30-2003, 11:27 AM Some of you older racers, correct me if I'm wrong but you're describing a Hooker set-up. A nut would be welded to the track clip and the stud (old style) would be screwed into that. Racers used to use this set-up because the thought was to put the stud in the area of the track that exerts the most force on the ground thus creating the most penetration. I don't race so I'm not sure if this setup is still used or not.
I never used it but always heard it wasn't the most desirable setup for the trail rider because the average rider didn't have the tools to set it up and it was very hard on tracks.
Auggie 07-30-2003, 02:35 PM Well, I think he is going to install the studs in the closed window area of the track !!!

1BADZR 07-30-2003, 10:03 PM Yes, closed windows in the track
DamageInc 08-01-2003, 04:25 AM The closed windows in the track aren't as thick or strong as the rest of the track. Besides the obvious slider wear problem, I really don't think there is much to be gained by doing it, and I guarantee you will tear some or all of them out of the track. I wouldn't even consider doing it. -just my .02
ArTeeCat 08-01-2003, 01:17 PM I would not put push throught studs under they hyfax. If anything you have to weld the thread in style studs to the track clips. I belive they make a special backer for this paritcular application
Auggie 08-01-2003, 01:22 PM Well, I still think its worth a try. Nothing ventured nothing gained :)

Until you pitch a stud into your heat exchanger and puke the motor.
phazerhater 08-01-2003, 03:48 PM Has this friend of yours checked out the stud pattern for the F-cats at stud boys site? They have several good patterns to choose from with great scratch lines.
Just a thought..
straycat 08-02-2003, 10:50 AM yes you can stud the windows in your firecat.
i have over 1200 miles on my f-7 and not one bent ,
or pulled stud. i will post pic's if anyone want's.
and you will not wear out the sliders,IF,IF,IF
you use the right studs
i have stud boys power points
they have a tapered head.
my hifax are just fine.
as far as the heat exchangers go, i wouldent worry.
i would do it all over again, as a matter of fact.
i will ,.......with my next firecat.
1BADZR 08-08-2003, 01:14 AM Thanks every one for your input,,,,Stray cat if you could post some pics that would be great,,,thanks again
