: Wheels For Skies
Warrior 07-31-2003, 03:26 PM Has anyone purchased this wheel attachment for their skis? I'm considering it due to the fact that I will be painting my garage floor, plus I like the idea of Gas Station use. Check out this web site. www.retrax.net (http://www.retrax.net).

Mighty RX-1 07-31-2003, 04:59 PM Finally, I have been waiting for someone to come up with an idea like this for years!
It seems easy to built...I think I will put some times on this. I should be able to scratch something on the computer. Some people around here did built their own sets but they are not as easy to used as those. I should be able to do it. Very good design they have.
FishHog 07-31-2003, 05:57 PM Neat idea. It will be interesting to see how well they work.
phazerhater 07-31-2003, 06:03 PM It's a great idea and I liked the demonstrative video, but $200!? Come on! :nervous:
Steven Hohman 07-31-2003, 07:25 PM "The RETRAX system will save components of your sled -- carbides, tracks, belts, and skis -- because they will no longer have contact with hard surfaces."
Seems like more people will be riding them off snow, how would that be saving the track? Riding the track on pavement would kill a track, especially if there isn't snow to lube it. Saving money on belts? How?
I would still like to own a pair of these, but for $200 I could make my own wheels, or something that would work
ecopter 07-31-2003, 08:58 PM That is a cool idea and definitely needed if you ride around Michigan or similar states. However, if you do your riding out of Wawa/Hornepayne or other neighboring towns, your skis rarely hit the pavement. After 2300 miles up there, my carbides still looked new.

paul yarek 07-31-2003, 11:51 PM if you check the news forum there is a guy that had a set.
slarson 08-01-2003, 12:15 AM A friend of mine works for the guyy that invented these things........
He came up with the idea because him and a couple buddies planned a charity ride from Alaska to Maine and they didnt know what they would run across.
If I have my story straight they crossed areas with no snow (they used fan sleds) and the wheels were a godsend, they also realized in the process somwhere how maneuverable it made the sleds in parking lots etc.
These things would be perfect for a beginner, or someone without the strength to tug their sled out of a less than desirable location.
I do not own them, but people that do claim they work as advertised.
sawman 08-01-2003, 03:15 PM Now lets get them working without leaving the seat
Indica 08-01-2003, 08:04 PM :withstupid: Seems like too much of a hassle to me. Don't think I'd get off the sled, engage the wheels, get back on the sled, cross the road, get off the sled, disengage the wheels. Maybe I'm just lazy?
Bauer 08-01-2003, 10:09 PM indyca just what i was tinking. Sure, maybe at a gas station, but crossing roads, just don't think so. I would just walk it all the way across!!! LoL, that is if the XLT could walk it all the way across.
Mighty RX-1 08-02-2003, 02:21 AM I wouldn't put them down for road crossing either. But there are times they would be handy. We pulled into this one gas station last year that had all the snow plowed. The distance to the pumps seemed to be forever, nothing but bare concrete. Plus I couldn't turn! They definately would have just about paid for themselves that time.
