I have a 2001 mxz 600 w/DPM and I was wondering if there would be a large advantage changing to 44mm carbs? What would you have to change and what would the gains and loses?

The stock carbs are plenty big now for just about anything you can do to that motor. The carbs are not the weak link in this motor.

Agreed!!!

Why do you want to cahnge them out to a larger pair?

only thing I see happening is loss in bottom end power ,for no gain up top.I agree with hillpounder.

I was told a set of 44mm carbs really makes this sled haul ###. I thought as well it may hurt low end nut right now the thing just spins off the line, If there were substantial top end gains it would be worth it.

Go ahead and try them, let us know the results. You'll need a 44mm throttle, 2000 600 reed cages, 2000 airbox boots, longer oil pump lever, and of course the carbs. gluck

You also need to change the throttle block, the 44mm lever will not work with the orig. block. The pump lever can be tuned (bent) to work with the round slides, but the stroke needs to be right. Most of the parts can be obtained from a '00 mxz 700, which had 40mm rounds from the factory.

OK here's the deal i have to buy all the parts and I will not doo it unless it's worth it. are there better things i can doo to this mill? i plan give it new gaskets/seals and open up the exh. ports as long as it's out. The sled is stock except for EPI clutch kit, 1.25 studded track (yet to come), can (sounds cool) and I have dropped the top gear to a 23 dropped down (just spins). my goal is to get the same accelaration with the stock gear ratio. what do i have to doo?

my opinion is not to go up in carb size. too much time, trouble, parts, and money for the gains. clutching and gear changes are good. throw a head on it. check plugs and wash to see if you can even go down in main jet sizes. i put a head on and it came to life! 01 mxz's are awesome candidates for head improvements. and you really can't beat a stock 01 mxz pipe in the aftermarket.

New head (RKT or ??) and two extra intake ports should wake it up. I would not bother with 44mm carbs-lots of potential tuning headaches for very little if any gain.
