: A Warning
H.O.RIDER 08-02-2003, 04:28 PM Gave the sled some TLC a week or two ago. Pulled the cover off today and I have a ruined seat. I had put some armour all on the seat and when the cover went back on it bled black all thru the yellow seat cover.
Just letting you know, so it wont happen to you!
ecopter 08-02-2003, 06:17 PM If I were you, I'd try ( on an inconspicuous place ) different types of solvent, "goo be gone" or something not too harsh that may remove it. Start with the normal soap and water if you haven't already and work from there. Tire black seems to work good on things and I always use it on my seat. Lacquer thinner works wonders, but don't get carried away with it. Also, M.E.K. is a great cleaning agent, although you'd still want to try it on a hidden place, first. What ever you do, don't rub, just dab it to do all your tests.
Let us know how it comes out.

H.O.RIDER 08-02-2003, 06:40 PM Thanks for the suggestions. I think the black die from the cover actually soaked into the yellow seat and is permanent. I was just hoping to save some others who have yellow seats. This was a Haikonen signature seat in perfect condition. Lifes a #####.
paul yarek 08-02-2003, 06:45 PM shoot if it were the other way around a yellow cover and black seat i think you'd have been alright. :( too bad.
SDRENE800RER 08-02-2003, 09:38 PM I like the look of the yellow covers.....I thought of getting one, untill I saw a couple of them last season......yuck they get disgusting. The worst one is on a friends REV. He wears black leathers, those things leave an awful mess on the seat.
CORY9 08-02-2003, 11:06 PM Thanks for the tip, I'm a Armour All user as well.
SDRENE800RER 08-02-2003, 11:35 PM Ive always had the impression that ArmourAll is not good for the seat material. I have seen what it can do to tonneau covers, and I have seen seats that were damaged and blamed the ArmourAll. Something about the silicone in it attacking the material.

What is M.E.K ??
Thanks
ecopter 08-03-2003, 12:12 AM It's an acronym for Methel Ethel Keotone. Great stuff to have around the shop. It's been a savior many times for stains, smudges, removing silicone, grease, etc...
You can find it at paint stores or hardware stores.

jonny8skidoo 08-03-2003, 12:21 AM I want to paint my seat black if your intrested may trade
H.O.RIDER 08-03-2003, 12:52 AM Thanks Ecopter.
Jonny8skidoo: my seat is off an S chassis. What do you mean by"paint" your seat black???
mudweiser 08-03-2003, 02:32 AM i don't know if this is what you are reffering to but I used (Krylon) Vinal to change the color on my boat seats. It worked very well. It is very plyiable and doesn't flack off. I was hessitant at first but a can is only about $4.00. Good results.
paul yarek 08-03-2003, 01:54 PM H O,
try acrosyl it will wipe grease right off a new suit believe it or not. i've used it to clean up some mean mistakes.
CORY9 08-03-2003, 10:06 PM You and I must be in the same buisiness Paul, Acrysol has saved my life on numerous occasions.
H.O.RIDER 08-03-2003, 11:31 PM I have tried pretty much everything, im sure its bled into the seat material.
I will try anything once, nothing to lose. What is acrysol, and where do I get it?
If anyone has a good black S chassis seat or just the cover let me know. I would prefer the 99 mxz or summit seats.
Thanks
paul yarek 08-04-2003, 01:40 PM H O,
i am not sure who is spelling it right {cory or me} i should walk out to the barn and look on the can. but acrosyl can be bought i am sure at an auto parts supply store where they mix and sell paint. some use it for cleaning their paint gun.

If you want a seat left at all don,t use M.E.K on it. It will clean it right down to the foam. M.E.K is used regularily in the Aircraft industry and is very potent and dangerous to your health. Its used to clean metal surfaces before painting generally. If you do get your hands on some "don,t" take a good wiff of it, if you value your Kidneys. Put it this way, it will eat the rubber on your boots. Most places have ban it and I don,t think you can get it from the hardware store. I had something similar on a Yamaha blue seat and your right, just live with it.
