I just put 2" handlebar riser blocks on my ZR and XCR and I was noticing they used grade 5 bolts with grade 8 nylock nuts (I'm not sure why that combo...). Anyway, I'm wondering if it would be wise to switch out the grade 5 bolts to a grade 8. The original bolts that I took off of my ZR were grade 8's. I know from an engineering perspective that the grade 5's will elongate/bend before they eventually break, where as the grade 8's pretty much just snap off at a certain point. However, there is this thing in the back of my head that says that the brand I bought should have figured the proper bolts for my setup anyway. I believe the blocks I bought were SPI?, I'll have to dig the wrapper out of the trash if it matters any.

One thing you may want to look @ is if the bolts are so long that they are only partially threaded. Make sure that there is no stress @ the point where the threads end.

Ski-doo had a problem w/ the control arm bolts breaking in the PRS chassis sleds because of this situation. The fix was drill out the threaded "nut" in the bulkhead & use a longer bolt that was totally threaded. A nut was then used on the inside to hold the assembly together.

i don't think you have to worry about the integrity of a bolt in that situation. if those bolts break i'll be a monkeys uncle.
