I'm converting my FZ700 121 to a 144" X 2". I'm considering using 21/44 gears, what pitch chain is required? Do the gears selection sound about right ???
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Mikadoo 08-07-2003, 07:47 PM 21-44 would be an excellent selection as long as you are still using the stock 9 tooth drivers.
A 70 pitch chain would do the trick.
Are you sure a 2" paddle will turn over without rolling the chaincase? Auggie 08-07-2003, 08:21 PM OK, here's the formula.
CD = the center dist. between the J/S and the D/S (Arctic Cats have two differant spec's 7.50" and 7.75").
TG = # of Top Gear teeth
BG = # of Bottom Gear Teeth
Example: CD = 7.50" TG = 21 BG = 44
(CD x 2) div. by .375 + (21 + 44) div. by 2 = Chain Pitch
(7.5 x 2) div. by .375 + 65 div. x 2 = C/P
15 div. by .375 + 65 div. by 2 = C/P
40 + 32.5 = 72.5
C/P = 72.5
Note: Because chains come with an even # of pitches (68,70,72,74, ect.) and your C/P # is 72.5 none of these chains will fit your gear selection (21/44 [2.095] ).
Your C/P # must be within (1) number of an avaiable chain. Example: A C/P # of 73 or 73.5 will take a 74 pitch chain. In your case your C/P # is 1.5 numbers from 74 which will cause to much slack in the chain. You may not even be able to get the chain adjusted. To add to this even number C/P #'s will not work because you will not be able to have enough chain slack to get the gears on the shafts. You must select a differant gear combo.

PS: I guess I thought you were driving an F7. You could still use this formula on your sled as long as you know the center to center dist. clutchman 08-07-2003, 09:02 PM 21/44 gears on a FZ gives you a 2.09 ratio, and requires a 70 pitch chain. summit 700's came with 19/43 gears which is a 2.26 ratio. 800 summits came with 21/43 which is 2.05 ratio. just some stock numbers for you. all require a 70 pitch chain. :D FZ700 08-08-2003, 09:14 AM Thanks for all the information.
I'll probably go with 21/43.
As for the 2" paddle track, according to the dealer it should fit, I'll measure the clearance myself to be sure.
