hey guys, i have a zr 800 2002. i bought it last summer with only 780 miles on it. last winter i put 3600 miles on and with a good year again this year i will put at least another 3000 miles if not 4000. I am wondering if it would be wise to put new pistons and rings in just to be on the safe side. I would rather do it now, than get stranded along the trialside some nice march weekend when i may have around 7000 miles on my engine. I know most of these 800's engines are bullet proof but just dont want to take the chance. what would u guys do.

If it was me, I would pressure test the engine and make sure the seals are OK and then I would freshen up the top as you were thinking...Just MHO.

If it would give you peace of mind to know that you had a fresh top end then go for it, better safe than sorry. :D

imo.i would do a top end job on it ,it's also a good time to check the reeds out. never hurts to have a look see inside

If your compression is still good, I would leave it. If it's dropped a bit, put a set of rings in it (skirt clearance should be fine at that mileage), and pressure test crankcase just to be safe, but that too should be fine at that mileage.
