Well I got (had) it  I spent the last day tracking down the problem ( Low and behold I found the "msblast.exe" program hidden in my computer files) and getting the latest service pack downloaded (win2k sp3) because my system wouldn't accept the patch without the latest service pack. Anyway, since the file is 124mb, and I have dial up  I went to my local computer shop and had them download a copy of it for me. Then I downloaded the windows patch, and downloaded a worm cleaner from symantec.com. I believe it is taken care of now though. What a waste of time. I must say though, it is amazing how some people can easily write script for programs to screw up computers, and I have a hard time writing script in Matlab to run/solve simple math matrices.

Whatever you do, before you attempt to remove the worm, make sure you load up your patch first. This will "plug the hole" so that the virus can be terminated when you scan your system to delete the worm. I didn't load the patch first (I was hoping to get away with not having to load up sp3) anyway I got screwed. I ran the virus removal tool and the worm took on a different variant and I wasn't able to then stay on the internet for more than 5 seconds before my modem froze and my browser shut down altogether. I had to restart the computer numerous times to reset the computer to a somewhat "normal" setting so that I could use it for just a few minutes at a time.
Anyway, if you need help try the following links:

I feel for you guys!! I had a puter guru/hacker set my computers and server up. I've yet to have anything get in. My system does updates every twelve hours, and does sytem scans twice a week without me lifting a finger. I don't know what the program is other than it was never sold to consumers. Iy's a Symatec/Norton program. I have talked to a few guys and those with Mcafee programs seem to have more trouble than the Norton guys.
If everyone would just let Windows Update auto refresh, most of this stuff would not be an issue. MS posted the fix for this exploit in mid July and my auto-refreshing Windows Update downloaded the patch way back then.
I agree that MS sofware has a lot to be desired, but for an OS that large, you are bound to have patches needed.
Which is why SW runs on *nix, not Windoze...

Luckily, I had updates as well. Some of my friends weren't as lucky.

I tried to get the patch that Microsoft put out a few weeks ago, but when I went to load it on my computer it said I didn't have the latest Service Pack to do it. Well, I went to do that and after seeing the 124mb file and having dial up I said "screw it". Well, now I got screwed. I've dodged othere worms and viruses, but this one bit me. In the end I ended up still having to get the SP3 from Microsoft and the patch. Oh well, at least I didn't have any permanent damage. It's a worm....
