Just wondering why the problem a lot of people are having with ring flaking( mostly 800's), is not a huge topic on this forum, but it's all over the snowest forum? Also they say the 03 600HO is plauged with this problem. Why can't ski doo build a motor as strong as their 670 was? That motor was bad ### and tough as nails. It would smoke their lame 700.

Is this really that big of an issue? Is it even really all that true? I wanted to get an 02 mxzx 800, but now all this talk about the longevity of the motor concerns me.

It has been a mojor problem on some and not-so-major on others. From what I get from others, it is possibly a few problems. The first is the ability to pull heat away fast enough from the rings/pistons (mid range lean condition?), and the port chamfer on the exhaust port. If you read some of the other posts in this section. ie http://www.snowmobileworld.com/forum/index...showtopic=23853 (http://www.snowmobileworld.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=23853) this should answer some of you questions

Rings have been an issue, but certainly not one to keep you from buying that sled. Overall, I believe it is still years ahead of most others.

No matter how you slice it, it is still an issue, an unresolved issue at that. Until Ski Doo puts in two rings on every piston, it will remain an issue. Engines pushing that much HP can't hold up with one ring very long. Check your compression every 500 miles and keep track.
I still think the REV is awesome, now just get a light tripple in it and we'll really have something :D
