: Why Is This Site So Slow?
DamageInc 09-06-2003, 06:06 AM I know this topic has been brought up before, but I never heard an explanation for it. It's even slower than normal right now, but it's always very slow in comparison to other sites. I have a fast computer and very fast cable connection (just checked at 2.2Mbps) so it is not me.
So, what's up with that?
z800rotax 09-06-2003, 09:25 AM Working good for me and i'm on super slow dial up
Good2Go 09-06-2003, 10:46 AM seems fine to me and i'm only running dial-up.
cooley 09-06-2003, 10:52 AM dsl here and running slow ;)
This is an example that it is probably not the server. You have two users on slow dialup that say it is fine and one on dsl saying it is slow, and another saying it is slow.
If it was actually a server issue, they would all be slow. Keep in mind that you are loading an enormous amount of data in these forums. If the forums here are slow, click on this link and see if it is a faster forum:
Test Here (http://www.fortongraphics.com/testarea/)
Does that forum move faster for you? If you answer yes, SW is appearing slow due to the amount of data that is being transferred to you. The test site is on the same server as SW.
Now, if this keeps happening, our best bet will be to lose most of the images on this page, enforce strict new avatar and signature image guidelines and get rid of all of the OLD posts in this forum leaving only posts active in the last month or so.
You decide....

corey every topic pops up in about 1 second on the test forum ;) i dontknow what it could be.
everything was fine untill about 2 weeks ago, all the pages popped right up but now somedays it does and other days like today it takes about 20 seconds if not more.
i dont want you to delete any topics as there is some very interesting and important info on the pages that would be deleted
i can live with the delay in the pages
DamageInc 09-06-2003, 04:26 PM I hope I didn't appear to be whining, I was just curious as to why. Snowmobile world rules! :D Anyhow, I checked the test page, and it was faster. I think the fact that the dial-up guys say it's fine, and the DSL and cable guys say it's slow, says something. The server is fast enough to keep up with their slow modems, but not with the lightening speed that we are used to, and that's probably why it only appears slow to us. Yes? No?
paul yarek 09-06-2003, 04:59 PM funny thing my old dialer is the same speed all the time with a few exceptions and i can always find a reason for when it is slow. this DSL is a turd because you never know what some of the outcomes will be. rhymzone is quite often wrong and so is mapquest wrong with directions where on my dialer the results are right on.
revrnd 09-06-2003, 11:21 PM I don't care about the speed. Just don't let the site go down :cussing:
Mikadoo 09-07-2003, 06:01 PM Some days it's so slow I can watch the grass grow while waiting :0:
Maybe there are to many frills like moving pictures and what ever else slows things down that arn't really nessesary?
Rocketman 09-07-2003, 06:03 PM I'm on a 2mbps DSL and its running just fine here.
I am working on a solution to this.
A new forum skin has been created in an attempt to solve this issue. This new skin is nearly 90% text bassed and MIGHT, (MIGHT) provide some solutions.
To try, simply visit your MY CONTROLS > SKINS AND LANGUAGES > and select the "Faster Surfing" skin ikn the drop down, then click CHANGE MY ACCOUNT OPTIONS.
See if that helps at all. It eliminates avatars, signatures, all inline images, and is mostly text based.
