Well, i was looking around the trader, and i think i like the Jeep TJ's. I really like them actually, nice vehicles, and cheaper, but i was just wondering, are they cold?? Like when it is -30, is that how cold it is in the vehicle, like is there constant drafts and stuff coming in?? Also, are they reliable and bulletproof just like my XLT and my Foreman?? Thats what i am looking for.

Well I had a 99 for awhile with a hard top and full doors. I was up in Timmins at the time and on -30 days it was cold in there. The heat in the TJ's is better then the YJ's. I drove it all winter and you get use to it. If it is a soft top with half doors I think you would be really cold. I had the inline six and it was a great I never had a problem but then again I did not keep it that long either. Anways it was a great to have and fun to own. :D

Pretty good vehicle.
I bought one for my wife in 2001. Now has 140,000 km's on it (yeah, she does plenty of driving with her job)
Nice snow vehicle if you have good tires.
As for cold - you really need to put the top on in the winter, after that your OK.
Some complaints about the TJ:
1. Front windshield wipers are almost useless, they don't apply enough pressure to wipe the rain completely off.
2. Rear wiper is OK, but after wiping all the dirt/snow off it parks in the upper section and all the residue drips back down onto the window. You almost have to run it constantly.
3. first gear is WAY too short. Second gear is too tall for stop/starts. Bad gearing in my opinion.
4. The idiots who designed the hard top made it simple to remove 4 of the bolts, but the 2 closest to the doors don't have any permanent threaded clips. You have to wedge your finger under the bolt to prevent the threaded block from falling. (when it does fall, it will be lost under the seatbelt assembly)
5. There is very poor water drainage from hood. All relays and wire terminations are corroded on passenger side of engine compartment.
6. Front lighting sucks - look into buying Xenon immitation high output lights
7. If your not going to "off-road" the vehicle, install SUV tires unstead. Makes the road ride much smoother. I did this for my wife because she does so much highway driving. In winter I install Blizzaks.
8. Radio sucks.
9. At the swivels for the doors, there is a problem with rust. Even after a short time of opening and closing the doors, paint will chip off and you will have to repaint.
Overall not a bad vehicle, has never let her down even after 140,000 km's.
Maintenance is pretty easy.

The TJ is a nice vehicle. I would love to have a soft top TJ as a second or third vehicle. My ex gf has a 2001 I drove alot, but never in extreme cold temps like you mentioned.
If you are looking for Durability, a Jeep is not the way to go IMO. You will hear both sides of this, but knowing people who worked in the service department at a local Chrysler/Jeep dealer, I would never have one as my primary transportation, much less buy a used one.
Just my $.02
Joe
I love the TJ's. Thats what i want as my first vehicle. I want it in yellow. My friend has one and it isn't cold once the heater is on for awhile.

I have always wanted a Jeep!! I wasnt sure if they would tow two sleds or not. Anyone know wether the 4.0L six will tow two sleds? What kind of gas mileage are you getting out of the 6?

You can tow two sleds fine with a 6.0L Wrangler.
Gas mileage sucks <---

The 4.0 will tow two sleds just fine. I used to pull my trailer with a Grand Cherokee w/ 4.0L. It will labor a little on steeper hills but no problems with the motor at all. Extremely reliable and easy to work on.
The problem I had with my Jeep was the short wheel base on icey roads. Pulling two sleds on an icey interstate became an adventure I don't ever care to experience again.

The 4.0 is one of the most reliable engines ever made, period ;) The TJ is a great vehicle for around town and 4 wheeling with but they are definately not a great highway vehicle. If you are serious about a TJ and four wheelin, get a Rubicon model.Dana 44's front and rear with locking diffs on demand from the flick of a switch :D
My wife has a 00 XJ Cherokee sport and it tows two sleds without a problem and gets decent milage as well.It doesn't pull as well as my full size ram but it definately gets better fuel milage ;)
