just wondering if this could be done. We mount a video camera on our sleds when riding and i was wondering if it was possible to broadcast a live video shot of us riding through a satalite connection so others could watch live online. Not sure how it would be done or even if its possible but i just thought of such of an idea. Not saying i would do such a thing but it woud be pretty cool idea. :D

It could be done a couple of ways..

1. Wireless Internet connection - Need a laptop, video capture card, broadcasting software, camera equipment and a web page to broadcast on. Sounds simple, but wireless Internet is spotty, especially with a moving vehicle. Also, you'll have intermittent service like the first cell phones years ago (10 +)

2. An actual satellite system like TV news channels use. You'd have even more equipment and an actual satellite dish to mount on your sled. Not to mention, buy air time rights to a satellite and a local cable channel I'm thinking.

3. Just run a remote camera to your cam corder in your backpack. Use the helmet mounted camera and just tape your ride. Then when you get home, convert it to digital (MPG, WAV, etc) and post it on the Internet.

Good idea, I think it's not too far down the line.

If you had an amateur radio license, it would be relatively easy. A small camera, hand held radio and a interface module (easy to get, some radios have this built in). Another alternative is to get a small camera that already has a radio built in (surprisingly common for security use) and amplify it. Depending on the range or area you are looking to cover, it could be fairly easy. But in order to run the power you would need, you would need to have an amateur radio license.
