Hello everyone. Been followin' this forum for awhile now and just had to join. Lots of useful info here. I just sold my 97XCR600se at haydays last month and I'm looking at jumpin' over to a Cat. My in laws have them and had very good luck so I thought i'd join them. What i've been looking at is a 2001 ZRT600, new still in the crate. Their asking $4622 out the door. Sound fair enough? They also have a 2002 ZRT600 for $500 more. Would it be worth the $500 to get the 2002? Is there any difference in the sleds other than graphics? What about any updates that I should be aware of? And last but not least, how does the ZRT600 compare to the 2002 ZR600efi in performance (top speed and trail manners)? My brother in law has the 2002 ZR600efi and I was beatin him across the lake last year and want to do the same this year.

IMO the ZR600 would be the better sled but if you like to throw the tripples around be my guest!!! What ever you get if can afford it get the newest year, I say this due to the fact that later down the road you will get better resale. Note if you do not mid the drive RV sports has many leftovers also see link.

Does the 2001 have power valves? If not, then the 2002 has APV (exhaust port modifiers) and it should have better bottom end performance, better fuel economy at cruising speeds and from what I have heard it would be quieter on the trail before the valves open up.

Get the power valves for sure. They will pay for themselves in fuel $$$, plus you get a year newer sled.

I believe the 2001's have the APV.

That 2001 sounds like a sweet buy. Would they throw in the full warranty with it? I would probably just go with the 2001. Those were fast sleds.
go with the 2001 if it has apv......as far as the deal u are getting. i have no idea what sleds are worth in the states. but eather sled are great sleds. But the apv is more responsive for sure.

They both come with a 12 month factory warranty. I can get it on the 6 month same as cash deal thru Artic cat or with a 2 year warranty or $300 cat cash. Does anyone own either of the two sleds that can let me know if they're screamers or putt putt's. My Father in law had a 96 ZRT600 and that mother flew. He sold it to a guy that still rides with us. That thing must have over 4000 miles on it and it still
has never been touched other than clutches. Not quite as fast as it use to be but can still hang in there. i've read that these things weren't as fast as the old ones,
Whats up with that? What was changed? Can you bring it back to run with the older ones? I have a 1 1/2" paddle track that I used on my XCR for one year on I took it off hoping to use it on my next sled. Will I be able to put a 1 1/2" paddle track on a 2001 ZRT? I had to remove the tunnel protectors on the XCR, Will I need to do the same with the cat? I Know It's allot of questions to ask but I'm not to familiar
with the newer ZRT's. Thanks for all and any input.
its true that the newer zrt's are not as fast as the older ones. they say it has to do with the way the new zrt is piped . the older zrt's were 3 in and 3 out of the can. they even sound better. the other thing some people say is the airbox. thats why its a good idea to get the apv zrt.

The other reason IMO for the slow down from old to new is the Fastrack to ETT. This will slow a sled down even when all other things remain the same. As far as making the newer sleds as fast as the old it all about money. You could port modify airbox and clutch and gear to get them as fast or faster then the old ZRT's. SWRules
