Hello, I was wondering if anyone out there knows of anyplaces where you can camp with a truck-camper in the winter near by snowmobiling trails. We could care less if there is electric hook up or not, with or without facilities. I am looking at the Michiagan area perferable but will snowmobile anywhere (I myself prefer upper Wisconsin). This topic came up one night at supper when my husband saw a truck camper for sale, I said I have NEVER heard of any snowmobiler camping in the winter, I do not even think you can ?!?!?!?!? (I am the sled head in this marraige, but he is getting addicted to sledding now!!!) SO I am in search of camping places to see if the purchase of this truck-camper is a good idea or not.
I have so far found 2 places in Michigan but am interested in more !!!!!!

I would say you could do that in just about every snowmobile park here in Idaho.

:) check out woodalls camping directory It should list campgrounds by state and when they are open and close winter camping is different a truck camper will work but if you want to shower and wash you need a campground with a heated bath house. Most trailer campers are not winter friendly. one that is is called artic Fox if you use a trailer you can't tow or take your sleds. Most motor homes are what is called a basement model which can be used below freezing but not all so check it out before buying. the truck camper most likely is not for winter use. you will find without storm windows the moisture inside will freeze on the windows.
and always take a backup heater along and keep the roof vents open a little. IMO a small motor home would be better because you have a little more room than the truck camper and if you have to buy a truck and a camper you end up spending the same amount of money. if you need the truck for other uses okay if you don't need the truck why buy it and lose all that space. Good luck.

If you come to ontario you are welcome to park it here, in our yard. Only draw back you will end up with other riders with you :D . The riding from here is usually excellent.

I have always just slept at the trail heads where we unload the sleds. most of them are in a nice size parking lot. i sleep in the back of the suv. with the seat down. i also now that all walmart's let you stay in there parking lots as well overnight. also if you go and ask pretty much any business if they would mind they usally don't have aproblem with it either. but i always purchase something from them for them alowing me to stay. i usaully just ride all day and then sleep thru the night there get up in the morning and drive to a diffrent part of the trails system and then ride the new day there. i think if it was a good deal i wopuld jump on it. you could always use it in the summer too! just make sure to have lot's of blankets and a good sleeping bag. good luck@@@

I know they have winter camping for snowmobilers in Allegheney State park, at least for people who stay in the cabins, i would assume they would offer camoing for people with truck campers also so that my be something to look into.
