I have an 02' Mxzx800RER with gearing at 26/44 Goodwin clutch kit with GP4 ramps, clickers at 3, pin weight at @20 grams, 200/280 primary, 185/290 secondary, and a 52/48 RER helix. I am running a stock 1" track(no studs) and I weigh 260 lbs. Sled is completly stock except for Boyesen Rad Valves and jetting changes.
My problem is I am over-reving to 8600 RPM and I have no top end. I understand that the tach is probably off @200 rpm. Also I just dissambled both the primary and secondary to clean and saw no abnormal binding or wear.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I had to go to the 200/350 primary with 18gram pins. Also check your secondary down at the bottom were the belt rides at full shift. If it is real shiney it may be slipping (check clutch heat). If so you may want to jump up to the 200/310 secondary spring...I did.

i dont know much about the gp4 ramp but what you got in the primary should not be reving up that high , look real close to your primary where the buttons slide in and out to see if they are rubbing on the side of the cup , look for shiny lines next to the ramp adjuster bolt and nut , i had mine binding like that once, what belt do you use?

The GP-4 is almost identical to the doo 228. The finish on the ramp is quite steep. It takes alot of weight to get it to to load the motor and keep the r's down.

I am running a 8607. I checked with Goodwin, and they suggested to put my stock secondary spring back in. Also, I read elsewhere to put a skidoo white spring in the secondary. What do you guys think?

Ghost Rider is doing that with the white spring, PM him

I spoke with Goodwin and they also suggested going to 25/44 gearing. Anybody using this gearing? Will this bring my RPM's down?

change the pin weight to 18 and put a stock belt on the sled........

why would you want to use a ramp that works ok on a tripple in a twin, the 301 ramp is really aggressive enough , all i can say is after all my testing the 301 got it done quicker, i remember when i bought my 02 and called goodwin to see what was up and he said there was nothing better , it;s not the clutching that is wrong on these sleds , it is the 127 belt that is a piece of crap, in 660 ft i put a 127 on and do 108 mph and put on a 127 and do 104 mph with everything else kept constant with less heat. i assume your trail rider with this sled so if you put your stock stuff back in and put in a 200-290 primary ramps on #2 and gear to 25-43 you might be surprised, use the black sec spring with a 50 -46 helix . thats my story and i'm sticking to it

Being that you say over-rev to 8600 and have no top end, this is common in my kit with folks who have a belt on that was not calibrated for the kit.
I calibrated with the stock belt. Some owners have installed an aftermarket belt or a OEM belt with different part number.
Results...High rpm over the whole range and absolutely no top end at all.

Going thru a checklist of possible problem details, I always get to the point where I ask "what belt part number is on your sled right now"
They tell me a different belt...I mention to try the belt that was calibrated for the kit.
They change the belt and all is well after.

I hope your problem is as simple as this.
I would ask GW what belt was the kit calibrated for and ask them to make sure that the belt they suggest is the ACTUAL belt they calibrated with.

Not much to offer right now, but I hope this can help.
