I keep hearing about exhaust restrictors for cheap HP 2-5. Is this true?
If so, how much heat do they add? Do cause any other problems.
Can you run one with a stinger/after market can?

I added one to my 2000 MXZ 700 and felt the difference on the big end,
hasn't hurt anything. Cheap H.P. which is rare anymore......Shadowman

I thought I would get more responses from this topic. Isn't a aftermarket pipe nothing but a stock pipe w/more back pressure? (Same volume smaller diameter inlet to the pipe?)
Is this not one of the cheapest ways to get additional HP?

Don’t you find it funny when try to get two stroke exhuast info is almost like its taboo? It’s like this “black art” has secrets to hide. Not the case. There lots of good info on the net with many good publishing. You just have to find them, cuz I find no one will tell you.
My only concern with using an exhaust restrictor is the long term effect on your motor. More back pressure also creates more heat also = faster ware on berings, seals, rings.
You can create the same effect by reducing your stinger diameter. That increased pressure helps the pressure waves, when the engine RPM increases the pressure within the exhaust created by the stinger also increase due to the larger amount of exhaust gases generated. This allows the pressure waves to travel faster and the overall exhaust timing is improved over a larger range of RPM's, hence the power band of the engine can be broadened.
You also can create a similar effect by reducing the diffuser / convergent cone angles, but that just messes with your power band by narrowing it and making it “peakier”. Not to mess with unless you know what your doing.
So in short, you can do it, but just remember what the added heat and pressure will do to your engine in the long run. ;o)
