: Project Mach Z
Rad Chad 10-07-2003, 07:24 PM Well we got all the porting done to the cyl's and case. The V-force 3 (with mods) reeds are in with spacers. The Head is being machined as we speak. Putting in removeable inserts. We are starting the pipes tommorrow. WOO HOO w00t
Rad Chad 10-10-2003, 05:31 PM Here's a pic of the pipes under construction. Should have them done by mid next week.
formulaIII8 10-12-2003, 08:05 PM Are you going to put your motor on the dyno? What horse power expectations do you have?
Rad Chad 10-13-2003, 10:03 PM Yes I plan to dyno it. I have a guy to doo it but he is terribly expensive so I'm trying to find another source. My program tells me that I will get 240 hp out of her, but I expect 210. I've talked to others that use this same program and they say the #'s come out really close. But I'll see it to beleive it. I will be happy with 210.
485ccofphazer 10-14-2003, 12:10 AM 210 sounds good to me too!!
Does V-FORCE 3's give a significant increase, much different from other Reed's on the market? I was thinking of reeds, but I like Boyesen because I can afford them.
Rad Chad 10-14-2003, 10:05 AM The V-Force 3 reeds were th ONLY reeds that had enough designed flow area. We still had to file the openings a bit to get the perfect number. We measured up regular V-Force reeds and they actually flowed a little less than stock but due to the design I can see why they would have better throttle response and midrange power. To fit the 3's in we hogged out the case to make them fit right and allow the reed to fully open. Otherwise when you put them in the reed block hits the case and pushes the reed stoppers in. Unacceptable.
Rad Chad 10-17-2003, 03:13 AM Here's the start of the pipes. I will have more next week as well as a pic of the head.
Rad Chad 10-17-2003, 08:12 PM Here's the head. :D
04 revegade 600 10-17-2003, 09:02 PM Thats going to be a crazy mach z.
Are you going to drag race it??
formulaIII8 10-18-2003, 02:40 PM Please post the dyno numbers when you are finished. Have you done anything with the case volume? What port timing are you using? The exhaust ports look to be good. The less metal the better. Good luck.
Rad Chad 10-21-2003, 01:41 AM rev - yes I will be racin' her. In snow drags, grass and asphalt. Just for fun tho. Not gunna get too serious.
Form - The only thing we did to the case was hog out the area that acepts the reed blocks. The V-force 3's hit the cases when they went in and we needed them to open all the way.
Here's an update on the pipes. They're comin along. Should have it rinnin' by Thursday.
dunittoo 10-21-2003, 08:05 PM Lookin good Rad Chad :)
Can't wait to here how she sounds. SWRules
Rad Chad 10-23-2003, 01:26 PM Well, it's running. WOOOOHOOOOO.
The pipes are all done, had to take a little off the top of the cylinders to get the squish down to .49 thou. Barked it up last night and man does she BARK. NOTHING sounds like a modded triple. now to start dialing it in.
Rad Chad 10-23-2003, 01:30 PM Also I spent a litle time lowering it. I'll have better pics later. When it stop's raining I can take it outside for a photo shoot.
Rad Chad 10-23-2003, 08:35 PM Here's a better pic :p
Krusty 10-23-2003, 09:50 PM Looking good man. .049 squish? Where is your timing? What octane fuel? Uncorrected C/R? Sleeves or nic? Pin and weld the crank? What rpm? So many questions.
Rad Chad 10-24-2003, 12:11 AM Yup 049 squish, gotta set the timing tommorrow but I ground out the slots to advance it large. 114 Octane fuel, I think the compression ratio is 14.9 - 1 I have to recheck the print out. Steel sleeves, didn't pin and weld the crank. 9250 rpm is the place where th power is made. The program says 240.9 hp but I think we will see 210.
formulaIII8 10-24-2003, 12:32 AM Greating looking pipes and sled. Are you still running the C7 rear suspension or did you upgraded to a sc10? My buddy has the exact same sled with the sc10 under it. I AGREE, NOTHING SOUNDS EVEN CLOSE TO A MOD SKI-DOO TRIPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry I had to expand a little. Looks great, good luck. :D
Rad Chad 10-24-2003, 02:05 AM I still have the C-7 under it. I want to race in improved stock. The rules say I have to keep the skid it came with. That's OK i got it lowered really easy and weight transfer will be incredible.
formulaIII8 10-24-2003, 07:15 PM From what I hear the C7 is susposed to be an excellent drag suspension. The and the best thing about it is it's already low to the ground.
pro116 10-29-2003, 02:19 AM what's this program you keep talking about?
Rad Chad 10-30-2003, 12:31 AM We got this program from Sweden. It does all the math involved in building an engine. You measure your stock engine, whatever #'s the program needs and tell it what you want the engine to do(drag race, snowcross, whatever), then it spits out what size and shape to make ports, head design, pipes and so on. The program was developed on 2 stroke GP bikes and snowmobiles. Guys that use this program say the hp figures are pretty close. I'll see when I get the Mach on the dyno.
pro116 10-30-2003, 12:57 AM the reason I was wondering the top 800 improvers don't even come close to 240hp a super strong 8 puts about 210 to 215 hp and that's a litle high yet.
chad, that is one mean looking powerhouse there......good luck with it this year :D
impstk800 10-30-2003, 09:52 PM Looks good, nice work!!!!
Hoosier Daddy 10-31-2003, 01:20 AM Sled looks nice! But I have to agree 240 is out of the ballpark. 210 is more like it are you only running 38mm carbs. But the sled looks nice great job on the pipes.
Rad Chad 11-01-2003, 09:46 PM Had the Mach out on the snow today. HOLY CRAP. rock'n'roll baby. Hang on honey we're going for a ride. She pulls hard. jetting is pretty freakin close. Maybe one size too big today. Now for clutching this beast. No probs.
00 T-CAT 11-02-2003, 04:37 PM :D It look's good!! good luck with it .. did you run it yet??
pro116 11-02-2003, 06:36 PM That looks pretty cool though it looks like you did your research,Did the guys behing you get a liitle dirt, lol
machz69 11-03-2003, 08:00 PM looking very nice fella..... where did you get them pipes? they look awesome. what did you do to the crank?
Rad Chad 11-03-2003, 10:28 PM Ya baby, I've only run it for a few hundred feet. Just getting the jetting dialed.
LOL no, no dirt was eatin' by anyone. she leaves a good roost tho.
Machz69, I don't know if I posted this but a good buddy of mine and myself built everything. Pipes from scratch, head inserts from scratch, all the porting, cylinder shim, the only thing I had to buy was the pistons and reeds. And the reeds we modded too.
machz69 11-04-2003, 12:00 AM well i tell you the pipes have to be about the best looking set i have seen... wanna make another set........lol what kind of h.p. did you see with them?
mach 1 670 11-28-2003, 10:02 PM AWSOME Z!!! I JUST BOUGHT A 97 MACH Z TODAY WITH 2068 MILE'S, ALL STOCK ,SO FAR! CAN'T WAIT TO START ON A FEW MOD'S!! KEEP US ALL UP ON THIS ONE !!! SKI-DOO - RULES!!!!!!!!!
vintage rules 11-28-2003, 11:56 PM are your software pipes alot different from o.e.m. tripple or after market tripple pipes. what did you use to roll and how did you calculate cut losses. my tsr pipes for 77 440 srx are lots different from o.e.m. mod pipes, my roller is home built. nice work gas or tig.
BlackMagicRacing 12-04-2003, 03:29 PM hey chad. i found this post for someone on snowest. so i decided to look through the pics again. damn sexy. im still waiting for you to call me asking how to ride it though. now i know you cant be holding that thing to the bar for to long. haha.... once i get over my mono maybe we can go for a ride. also looking forward to one of your new additions to the family.
Chat with ya later,
Garret
