Well today I took apart my rave valves

1200kms after last check

Castrol Oil

Hardly any carbon, basically clean as a whistle :)

a bit of oil in the bellows, not much

Was dirtier when I used Shell Advance,so I will run Castrol again this season

Anyway here is the stupid part :hallo5:

When reassembling,I use a socket wrench on the Valve piston

It is made out of plastic and I kinda over did it OOPS :hallo9: ,the rave bolt threads went through the head tip of the valve piston

Now do I have to buy another valve piston ???

or it should not matter as long as its movement matches the other rave valve ???

Check the pistons through the valves they look A-1

You are not an idiot. I did the same thing on mine earlier this summer. The dealer looked at it this summer and said i should. my bolt didnt come completly through. I had asked the same question on here earlier in the summer and didnt get a clear answer. I was going to leave and, make sure they are adjusted to what the manual says, and see how they go. if it dont feel right, replace it. easy thing to replace. it was $13 us. Thats what ronnies had for it at least. Let me know what you do!! SWRules

i guess it was a good thing that i used a nut driver to tighten mine. when i took mine apart one of my exhaust valves wasn't even connected to the bellows, it was flopping around in there and rounded the threads on the valve. the plastic threads on the bellows were perfect, go figure.

I screw them in until they lightly seat then back them off just a hair. Allowing the valve to self center in the slot, and any rotational movement in the valve will not affect the bladder.

Freezerburnt, which castrol product?

Castrol must have changed blends over the last few years.

Ugh, the last time we did a Oil test, this was back in 98 or so...
...I had to remove the raves every 250-300 miles because they would start to stick.

I go across the border and buy Phillips Injex....clean as whistle.

im sure many of us have done that....i have on another guy's sled. heh heh...OOPS!

Its the $13 4L Castrol Snowmobile OIL you get a Crappy Tire/Walmart/Costco

I to use ONLY CASTROL OIL and have never had any problems with my Mach-z or Phazer or 433GP Yamaha . Why spend BIG $$$ when your getting the same protection with way way less $$$ .
