Hello there. I want to know what you guys or girls, look for in an aftermarket head. Do you buy one for racing or just looking for gains on the trail? Do you plan on running better gas with it or just 92 octane only?
I know with a stock head there is room for vast improvement. I have built a few from scratch now and had great results. Stock domes are designed for the worst possible conditions and for a guy who will run only premium and jet properly, I have the technology to build him a head that will greatly improve performance.
Any thoughts? :)

I don't believe the stock head was built only to run on premium fuel.

I am curious, and I am wondering what you have done so far. If you have had great results, what type of feedback are you looking for? If you are looking to us to help you design a head to go to market with, I think you are looking in the wrong place.

No no, I mean't that the stock head was meant to run on crap, BUT for the guy who wants to run premium only or race gas I can build a head.
I have done some for 600 rotax's and 780 Mach. I machine out the dome and build an insert like the 440 style of head. Then I create a dome design for what the rider is looking for, ie full race, trail riding etc.
What feedback I am looking for is what do most people change their head for? Do you want to race it or just want better trail performance. I will design a head for every individual and not a generic head for the masses.

Okay...I got ya now. Better trail performance is what I would be looking for. Maybe you should try a poll to get feedback from everyone.

Rad Chad,

What software are you using to design combustion chambers, TSR ?

Perhaps a stupid question.
Are all modern sled heads inserted as shown in your picture Chad? Or is that how you change shape of chamber without an entire new head? I understand that using billet aluminum would improve cooling, as it has much better heat transfer properties than cast aluminum.

I look for better performance and better cooling. The stock head is only good for a stock sled.

Hi Rollo, no the onlt heads I know of that come from the factory with inserts are the 440 skidoo's. This is how I change the chamber by machining out the old dome and build a new one from scratch.

What do you think of the aftermarket lift and dome kit for the Mach 809, that sledpro sells, is it worth the $400 for the 9hp that they claim. If you know much about it I'd be interested to know if it is better or worse as far as heat dissipation.

thanks

We have a bunch of different programs we use. Some programs that use GP bike technology.

Jaws, Yes I like the lift and dome kit. That's what I did. But I build my own stuff. I can build it for you too. That was the only way I could get the power out of my Mach. The intake ports were too low and were half covered by the piston when at BDC. As far as heat dissapation goes, I don't know if it would be any better.

Thanks rad chad.
When I bought the sled last year it was in need of some real work, the guy before had put the lift and dome, and jaws pipes, but didn't clutch it or gut the air box, he did rejet to 410's. I spent a f#@&load of money on this sled and still didn't get it working right. It had lots of power but it would overheat in like 5 miles and was worked on more days then ridden, (the only way to cool it down was to dunk it in water  ) I have since removed the lift and dome kit and am awaiting snow to see if it is any better, BTW I changed the heat sensor this summer as well. I guess time will tell.

Thanks for the info. If I can get this thing running right I'm certain I would be happy as I'm coming off a 97 mach 1 the year previous and loved it. :inlove:
