I was wondering if you can convert US used sled prices directly to a Canadian value strictly by the difference in the dollar?
A chap called me & said he had been checking ebay & that using US prices for sleds similiar to mine. He came up w/ a Canadian dollar amount. This ballpark figure was roughly 1000 to 1500 bucks less than the "Blue Book" value my friend who runs a used sled shop showed me in August.
Are sled prices that depressed in the US or is the Canadian "book" value (& that was the high price) inflated?
I never asked him why he wasn't checking a local copy of the Bike Boat & RV Trader to determine a price.
i think it has a lot to do with the area u are in. in some area's where there hasnt been much snow u may not get top dollar out of a sled.
2 yrs ago we were buying used sleds here in NB and we had a contact in Maine that would come over and buy the sleds from us. He was giving us full retial for the sleds, and then taking them back to Maine and making money on them because of the exchange rate. Say if he bought a sled from us for 5000 $ cad, well that may have only cost him 3500 $ usd. he would take them back and sell them for 4500 - 5000 $ usd. now that was 2 yrs and it was like sleds in the states in that area where selling for the same as sleds in canada but in a different currency. Good deal for the americans coming over hear and buying a sled. So the past 2 or 3 yrs our used sled value seem be holding really well in NB because of all the guys from the states buying up our used stock and the area hasnt been as saturated as it was before.
Its kind of funny because about 10 yrs ago when the money exchange was down around 17 % we used to go over there and buy all of our used sleds, my dad has his dealers liscence and he would sell 20 - 30 sleds from oct to jan and they were pretty much all sleds from Maine. How things have changed........not sure if this answers any questions, but i hope it helped

Dawg, that's what I kind of figured. He mentioned sleds in MI & WI. I know WI & MN had low snow last year, so that's probably why the prices were down. He also mentioned these sleds were low mileage. I didn't buy my sled to take up a spot in the garage. I never mentioned that mileage figures should be taken w/ a grain of salt. Speedo cables are too easy to disconnect.
Why he wasn't looking in the toy trader for central Ontario I don't know. Probably trying to lowball me.

You can buy sleds that are 2 or 3 years old in my area with under 1000 miles. We had have really bad winters the last 3 years without snow! Its a buyers market here right now.

it's like the horse business right now then, used to be only smart horse buyers went south. now all the americans are coming here to buy and i hope it lasts.
sometimes this happens in Nova Scotia or PEI. now the past couple winters NS havnt been that bad for snow conditions, but ussually u can get low mileage sleds down there for good prices because there is no demand. I have noticed that used sleds this year are holding there value in my area really well my 02 zr 800 cce was worth about 7500 - 8000 last winter and guys are asking about the same this year.

The law of supply and demands pretty much applies here. Huge supplies with no snow here = no demand. Some of the dealers here had 02-03 almost half of new price. If we don't have a avg. year this time I don't think many dealers will be carrying sleds anymore.

Obviously supply and demand.... but how regional is it? Prices out here are rediculous.... with the Bike Boat & RV trader sporting prices for 94-96 sleds of ~CDN$3500. However, prices at this time of year are always high around here..... give it 2 months after the season starts and prices drop a bit. However, if people are actually getting what they are asking here it just might be worth a trip or two to Bronson :)
for the buyers its good to be able to get sweet deals on sleds in certian places because of terrible snow conditions, but it hurts the sport in that area and the manufacture's must notice it too. :(
