: Need A Sled For The Wife

Hi all,
I have about $2k to spend on a sled for the wife. I see a lot of 96-98 xc600's out there in my price range. Is there anything notriously bad about these sleds? She doesn't like to 'high' clutch engagement of my stock 97 Ultra SPX...should I expect a similar clutch engagement on a 600 triple?

Thanks,

$2000 might get you a newer super sport with the edge chassis, but if she likes the power of a liquid, she might not like a 550 fan.

There's alot of sleds out there for $2k. If youre looking into a XC600 (XLT triple motor) be sure its stock. There's people out there with stock XLTs, XCR/XC600 that have been running pretty solid without a problem. A good clutching setup would be the best bang for the buck for improvements. Anyone - WL.

If you want her to enjoy the experience, I'd be worried less about the power and more about the ride. The XLT's with the Xtra 12 are a great second sled given that the suspension is in good shape. If at all possible, I think you are very close to the price range of an early Edge 500 or 600. Either a very desirable sled, even if you were looking at fairly high milage sleds to keep the price down. Xtra-10's are stiff.

My cousin has a 98 (I think) Indy Classic 500 Liquid, his has tons of miles, has great power but is also just a good all around sled. They don't go for very much, if I recal right..

I would have to agree with Michachicks, the ride quality of an XCR/XC 600 is not what most typical women will be looking for. They handle ALOT better than any XLT with the Xtra-12, but you pay for it when the trail gets rough. Look for an XLT. There are lots of them in good shape for cheap.

Thanks for all the responses. I ended up with a 96 XLT Special for her for $2k. It's clean, and it will keep her happy until she gets her 800 Rev.

Thanks,
Scott
