I have seen several adds for screw in studs lately, was wondering if anyone was using them and how well they work and hold up?

From what I've heard they don't hold up very well at all. A good idea in concept, but . . . I think there was some mention in SnowTech that they had a lot of tear outs and lug damage with the ones they tried.

Save your money and buy real studs. The only work on quads.

There are way better alternatives to these pull out studs out there and they are maybe only pennies more.

As a new rider (02ZR800EFI) I had the same question. I now have 2 seasons 2600
miles on TLS (track lug studs) from Bottom Line Traction. I have lost a few. I would guess that installation is more critical than with standard push- thru studs. If you overdrive the screw gun the threads on the stud will cut a hole. Also, If you jab the throttle on wooden bridges or asphalt where the studs will grab hard you might rip them out. I opted to put 96 Woodys Goldiggers evenly distributed along with 192 TLS. My logic was that the TLS weigh about 1/20th of the full studs and the shared loading would result in less pull-outs. I am happy with the results, but I am mostly on groomed trails only an occasional lake. One last special issue was I studded a 1" track and the only available studs were 1". The f/glass reinf rod in my track forced me to nip off the spiral end of the screw complicating the install and leaving me with only 3/4" threads. I just got a 04 700 Sabercat w/1.25 track and looking at the same 1" screws. I do know another guy w/Polaris who lost most of his TLS. Can only speculate why. :D

Two years ago we were gassing up at a station and a guy with his Viper decided he is going to put on a show leaving the station. Man-idiot guns the throttle, thinking he is on hard pack snow. There is a shower of ice and dirt and apshalt that hits his friend behind him about 30 feet back. We are looking on in disbelief as he(the friend) pulls two lug studs from the gap between his helmet and the sheild. Not that this is normal but I do not think I want to ride behind sleds with lug studs.

Yep. They'r probably ok for you ice fishermen to get to your shantys, but for trail riding they will just hit your buddies in the face.

I have track lug studs on one of my sleds. 136 X 1.25" track. BLT's. They worked OK. I did lose about 7 lugs, but not the whole lug and all in the exact same spot. Don't know if someone (I lend it out) spun on something that sheared it or not, but it may have been a contributing factor. Weird thing - all in the same spot, but not in succesion. Anyway, the bottom line is that when I get a new track, I will be putting in regular studs.

I just saw in snotrax (I believe) that they put them in 2 years ago and really havent commented on them until now. They said that they did loose a few of them and that there were some bad lugs. Just get studs and dont take the chance. The little savings will really get ya when you buy the new track.
