Looking for help or info on how to build a quieter silencer.I have twin jaws pipes on a 670 , they work fine, however ,they are just a little to loud. They always have been.I have tried the latest packing ,no good.I think they are just too small ( 2"dia)to be effective.I want to build an aluminum can,but not sure how to silence more.Do I just make it bigger dia.,say3'-3.5'with more packing? Can I build a can with many expansion chambers inside with no packing?Any help would be great.

generally bigger is better, bigger diameter or longer however you can get more volume. What you run into with a baffle design is the plates that seperate the chambers tend to ring or rattle making unpleasant noise. This can be helped using heavy material (heavy) and it helps if they are not parelell to each other or any flat side of the can. Bigger volume individual silencer may lower the tone and make the noise more friendly? Space and routing is always the problem.

slp puts a large hose clamp on the largest part of the pipe for noise reduction.

I've been playing around with the same thing. One thing I have found that helps is perferated sheet metal, I use some that has 3/16" holes in it and place it in the silencer and also make a simple cone out of it and rivit it in the outlet pipe. One thing you have to make shure of is that the total area of all the holes in the sheetmetal pieces to be used are equal to or greater than the exhaust outlet opening. This is a must to not restrict the exhaust flow any more than needed but to just kill the exhaust pulses since that is what we hear. I have dropped 3-5 decibles this way and really can't tell much of a difference in performance, ( although a dyno would say differently) and this was with a set of stingers on a triple, I got them down to 80 decibles at 3000 rpm. Also by doing this I got the annoying crack out of the exhaust noise. But I am not going for the most speed on the lake but good performance and to be as quiet as possible. Currently I am taking a srx factory can and experimenting with it, Just want to see how quiet I can get it before the performance really drops. Won't the DNR crap when they can't hear a sled go past when thier windows are rolled up,,,hahahaha it would be nice,,
