I have a 93 440 lc Cougar, circumstances this year say no new sled for me and since my lovely wife has appropiated the Indy 500 for herself I'm wondering if I can tweak the old Kitty a little.
It's bone stock, near mint and runs great it just ain't that quick.
What i was thinking of doing was-
1-Get rid of the big ol' airbox and get some K+N filters, the old airbox sucks to service the carbs any way.
2-get a set of pipes or silencer-but want to gain power not a lot of noise, although a little is good.
3-get a little snappier clutch spring for a little more off the line.
4-and of course re-jet to get max power for our style of trails-not wide open a lot just 25-45 mph cruises with the occasional blast across
a field or pond and between trees.

Any feedback would be cool,I think I can little more go out of the old girl with a little love and less money SWRules

Jet for temp., tune up the clutch and leave the rest alone!!! (you'd just be wasting your money and messing with the reliability of a good old sled).

i agree, clucth her up. and maybe play with a 1 or 2 tooth increase on the gear to make it more snappier, if you want it to be fast from 25-45,50mph this will probly do it......

I had a 91 cougar 440 LC and like they say just clutch it and leave it at that. I had a few clutching problems with mine but once I got them fixed and put on a new belt it was like a new sled. Could top out at 90mph on an ice road. Maybe chaging the gears will help if all yo run is 25-40mph and also give it a good tune up.

I have a 94 Cougar myself. I agree with the others...jet it correctly and some clutch work is all you want to do. You won't find pipes anyway for that motor. The old piston port 440 is bullet proof, but you won't push it paste 70 hp. I did spice mine up with some clutch work. Fun little sled.
