Hi I just bought a 96 ZRT600 with 1600 mi on it its all stock except for 196 woody's pics. What can i do to wake it up. My buddies 88 wildcat 650 can stay right with it.
I can't let that continue. Tell me what to do to wake it up. Thanks :hallo4:

you will have to go over it from front to back and check everything out pipes, carbs, clutches ,compression ,idler wheels and such then she might wake up .after thet then you could put some goodies on it to really wake her up.

Check your jetting, make sure it still isn't jetted fat from the factory. Check the motor mount/jackshaft bearing to make sure it isn't broken, which it probably is. Clutch it.

If you read through the archives, you'll find that there were a few minor issues with the '96 ZRT that needed attention (as stated above).

- Make sure the motor mount has been updated and not broken. The left rear one seemed to cause the most problems.

- If the clutching is stock - change it. The stock clutching on this year was horrible. You'll find plenty of clutching info in the archives.

Take care of a few minor details and you'll be dusting the old 650 in no time.

You got a great sled - good luck!

Check the pipes for leaks if they do it is good for at least a 10ph loss.
my 98 ext runs good with just clutching changes. :)

Make sure everything is in good mechanical condition (i.e. good compression, etc) and then change gearing and clutching, and make sure it's jetted properly, and you should pull away no problem.
something like this (http://www.snowconnection.com/NewProducts/jaeck/taletwister.htm)

Jet down to 330 from the factory 360's, start from there for jetting. Some guys I know ran down to 310's above 0 degrees, go from there. If you get ignition cut-out probs, check the carb switches and kill switch, and like the others said check the left rear motor mount for sure. Austin

Well the motor mounts are ok. the jets are 350, stock clutching and the center carb
slide dosn't drop completely down every time. And it needs new carbides.I'll jet down to 340's and clean the carbs but what should i run for a sping and weights in the clutch? SWRules

Get yourself a Goodwin kit with a roller secondary cover.

Put the ### end up on a stand and warm her up. Have the hood open and nail the throttle. Take a good look at that motor mount, 9 out of 10 break and you won't see it right away.

if you dont want to spend a ton of money on a clutch kit, then hope it works, you can try this out,,, HPE orange\green primary, it has 170\300, stock weights, 57\50 helix, and a roller cover, a cheap roller cover that works, i got from a 97zr440, made by cat, cost about 40-50 bucks work great, have this on my 96 zrt600, and it rocks,

24-39 gears
52-54 grams weights
CAT yellow-white or yellow-green pri spring
57-50 helix
NON roller cover.
FRESH CAT yellow sec spring.
try setting the primary with the suggested combo's and try revving the sled at 8250-8500rpm. whichever pulls hardest, to get those rpms, try different combos of those peices I listed!
Should engage at around 5000 or a little less.
Good luck!
With that gearing, you'll be able to tell what rpm it likes to pull at.

SWRules OK lets see what everybody's running on there zrt 600's
Then i'll run the most popular combo and then report how it works.
I have enough room here to run it 1000 ft and check it out. :p
