: Mirrors
well i have always had mirrors on my sleds. however i dont think i will like the looks of the mirrors on my firecat. what other option for mirrors are there and what do u guys use. I just dont like the looks of them sticking out on the sides of the windshield. But if i have to i will put them on.

charlo 10-28-2003, 02:45 PM I've used one of those hand mirrors that they sell at crappy tire. The neat thing about them is they never vibrate and are around $10,cheap.
YamaDooed 10-28-2003, 02:56 PM Dawg you can buy some small convex stick on mirrors at the auto parts store. Just mount them on the hood above your knees somewhere. They are not the best thing to see behind you but you can always count on headlights. You never can see quite well with the factory ones either though. these are very stylish though...

michahicks 10-28-2003, 02:57 PM I'd get used to the way they look. They are there when you need them NOW, even when you don't know it yet. Most times you get the info you need out of the corner of your eye, without actually looking. The guy passing you unexpectedly willl show as movement in the mirrors and register in your brain almost immediately. The guy wearing one on his hand doesn't even know anything is even there to look at yet.
Do I feel strongly about permanently mounted mirrors? Yes. I think they should be required equipment, just like on a bike. I know it's a good subject for debate, been there. To each their own.
oldyeller 10-28-2003, 02:58 PM I'm with Charlo on this one.I always hated the look of mirrors on sleds(although some of the newer styles look good)and I use the one that just straps around your wrist. Its great,no vibrations and no handlebars or arms or legs in the way,you can aim it anywhere you want.
Do the Doo 10-28-2003, 03:01 PM I bought my sled without mirrors and the wife's with mirrors. I now have permenant mirrors on my sled. I use the OEM mirrors, but try the catalogs and see what else is availible. Maybe you can get a color match set for the sled. I will not sled with out mirrors now.
thanx guys, i will not sled without mirrors. i feal lost with out them. I know when it comes right down to almost riding time i will go and buy a pair of the cat mirrors that mount on our windshield. in my opinion they are the best mirrors out there, u dont have to look down to se them at all. i had a set on my zr last year. plus i can get green ones so thats the way i may go. Better to be safe than look good. my moms sabrecat looks alright with the mirrors on it but it has the higher windshield. i was just think that mayeb they would look terrible with the lower firecat shield.
Karl27 10-28-2003, 03:36 PM Like somebody else said, you can get one of those wrist mirrors that you put on your left arm instead of mounting permanent ones on your sled. I would have no problem with mirrors being required on all models. Makes sense to me. Of course if you talk to my sledding buddies they'll tell you I'm the last guy who needs mirrors, cause nobody is ever behind me. Ha ha you smart a$$ goofs. I need new sledding buddies lol.

alscool 10-28-2003, 03:55 PM The wrist mirror does not work all that well, especially during the day.
The angle you have to hold your wrist up and still in front of your face but enough out to the side is almost painfull. And then you don't really see anything!!. My buddy would see me toiling with this and would dart out to the left of the trail to reveal his headlight from the trail of snowdust. In my opinion, a mounted mirror would not be any better, except for the wrist strain, they vibrate and during the day my riding partner would not recognize my efforts to see him behind me.
Wrist mirror, not perfect, but a solution.
jdsmi 10-28-2003, 04:37 PM I'm another one that uses the hand/wrist mirror. It's not a perfect solution but a decent one. It allows you to look behind you when you want without turning your head - which is the purpose of a mirror anyway.
IMO, for 10 bucks, it might be worth a try.
ecopter 10-28-2003, 05:41 PM Bug eyes! They mount on your helmet and with two ball joints on each mirror, they can be adjusted all over the place.

While they may not look the coolest, once you try them, you won't want to go back.

WoodyCam 10-28-2003, 06:25 PM Jon,
Got a photo you can show us or a web site URL?
thanks

Dawg whatever you do don'tput mirrors on your sled. The sled looks great but not with goofy mirrors.
I use the hand mirror that goies on your wrist works great. I will never get mirrors on my sleds.
Mikadoo 10-28-2003, 07:08 PM On all the Skidoo's I have owned I have always used just a plain chrome 4" round mirror with a 3/8 stem that can be bought at motorcycle shops.
The stem comes long so it can be cut to length. Then I just thread it and mount it behind the windshield in the curved area that sticks out for wind protection of the hands.
Looks great, very functional and are always out of the way especially when you want to cover it.

Hope this helps.

phat_cat800 10-28-2003, 09:19 PM Hey Nate I don't think they would look to bad if you mounted a set of the ones off of a Sabercat on the wind sheild. You just need them to make sure that Alex stays behind you. LOL You can also get mirrors that mount onto the hangrips, but they probably wouldn't work with the hooked bars.
SLDRDR 10-28-2003, 09:33 PM I put a set of the windshield mirrors on my firechicken, and they look really good. I installed the green ones. They are a real bugger to get on the same(from side to side), i would suggest go to the dealer to see if you take a windshield for a template to drill the holes.
Wrist mirror is the way to go. Dont ruin the looks by putting nerdy looking mirrors on it. Those bugeyes look like a good idea if you never leave the trail but the way we ride(powder busting and catching big air) I would bust them in the first hour of the ride.
snowfever1 10-29-2003, 12:18 AM Which would look more stupid? The sled with mirrors? Or the guy with mirrors hanging off his helmet? Them bugeyes sounds like a good idea but you are going to look pretty dumb, dumber than your sled would look with mirrors on it. and they are going to get busted off when riding or when you put your helmet in your helmet bag.
I use the wrist mirror. Can be a pain sometimes i agree. but i don't look that close at it, just a flick to make sure my buddy is still behind me and not around a tree.
ecopter 10-29-2003, 02:18 AM Snowfever,
I'm neither a stock holder in bugeyes nor give a flying flip if anyone buys them. The thread is about different options to mirrors. I have the bugeyes and find they do an excellent job at exactly what you eluded to in the final sentence of your post. At age 36, I could care less how stupid someone thinks I may look. Their functional, fold up flush to the helmet for storage in my helmet bag, and with several high speed runs in excess of 110 plus, they have yet to even be altered from my original placement for optimal viewing.
Stupid looking, dumb, bugeyed helmet donning 36 year old signing off.........
puree 10-29-2003, 04:03 AM I didnt get mirrors on either the firecat or the 370, but I have since picked up the windshield mounts for the 370 and I think we will like them, (as long as they dont virbrate everywhere). I didnt get them for the firecat yet as I am sticking with all green and I was told that the green mirrors just dont look right on them. The dealer is bringing a set in for me to look at to make up my mind though,,,,,,,,
grn800, can u post a picture of your green f6 with the green windshield mounted mirrors. would like to see what they look like before i put them on. they didnt look to bad on my zr, but not sure about the firecat.
thanx
Do the Doo 10-29-2003, 03:20 PM To Mirror...or to not mirror....This is the question we reflect on..... :p
Steven Hohman 10-29-2003, 05:30 PM Who bought their sled on how it looks? :-p
This is a question of safety, I can tell you that you look cooler with just a colorful skull cap instead of a helmet, but for safety reasons you wear one.
What would look stupider, a sled with mirrors, or a lost sledder that because the person in front of him didn't have mirrors, he couldn't check to see if he was still keeping up.
PhiltyPhil 10-29-2003, 07:16 PM I'm with Steve. A lot of my sledding is done with my lady and her 14 year old son. I have to know what my family is doing behind me. Mirrors on my dirt bikes...no....sleeding with the family is not racing on a track....mirrors are a must......cheers......phil

The angled mirror that I think you're describing SUCK. The 3"spot mirror kind are great. My crew has been using them since around 1990. I'm so used to them that last year using a sled with mirrors I kept putting my arm up to look. D'uh

I agree with Charlo as well. As for mirrors on machines most I have seen dont stay on the sleds for long. Last year my buddy Mason is out riding with the Trail Hog and a bunch of us. We stop for a smoke and I ask him about his mirrors. Mason tells me how great they are and have never been smashed off the machine, we jump back on the sleds and shall we say he was blinded by the gade and bailed rather then hit me, guess what was smashed off his ride? w00t His mirrors. :hallo5:
snofrog 10-29-2003, 11:48 PM i use the bugeyes they work great ,havent lost one yet,and are cheeeeap compared to factory mirrors,as far as looks form follows function.Mark
