I would say a little clucthing and some mods to the airbox with a rejet should improve the 600 pretty good.

whoops...my bad I forgot about that, I was thinking of our old 98 zr600 carb. There is no need to rejet since you have nothing to rejet. LOL

I would advise A Goodwin or Speedwerx clutch kit. My personal preference is goodwin. Their setup worked best on my sled. This year I added some Boyesen reeds, just the pedals not the whole reed cage. I also installed some Bulls eye air intakes from D&D. i am not convinced yet that they are really doing anything for me(no testing time in yet). I have a D&D exhaust can(mainly for sound, louder but not enough to annoy everyone around you, It sounds like and 800 at idle) Studs are key you need traction or you'll just be spinning the track. Unfortunately there are not alot of mods for this sled. You can have the head cut to the minimum specs but that limits you to premium only fuel. I don't reccommend after market heads. reason being they are not made to your exact engine. When you have your current head cut it is taylored to your sled to be 99% sure its at the specs it should be. Aftermarket heads may produce more compression on one sled than on another. The Best thing you can do for this sled is clutch it. Goodwin is alittle more expensive than Black Magic and D&D but I think there kit worked the best. I tried D&D and the kit worked OK but I needed to use the factory secondary spring to pull the right RPMs. The one in the kit was too light. A friend tried the Black Magic kit and could not run the correct RPMs either. No matter what he tried the sled wouldn't run right. I tried the Goodwin setup and was very satisfied with it. The speedwerx setup works good to but uses a very heavy secondary spring which creates belt heat. I can help you with a decent clutch setup that might save you some cash. E-mail me if you want . Wstig@hotmail.com. I'll be happy to help any way I can.
first mod i always do to my sleds and i am sure most other guys would be a good clutch set up. this can make the difference between a great working sled and a sled that is a pig. also if it still comes with stock jetting u may want to rejet. cats tend to come jetted a little rich. this may help your gas mileage a bit too. good luck

One thing I didn't see is what year you ZR 600 EFI is. The 2001-2002 Sleds have a non-reprogramable Computer. The earlier models can be reprogramed.
