My, my, my,
Just got my renewal in the mail and my premiums have just increased 100%
Yes my sled ins. has doubled since last season...
no speeding tickets no claims no nothing but now I have to pay twice as much....
I have no collision just comp. and a $500 deductable... I can't pare it down anymore.

They say that I am paying for all the accidents and claims last year..... like I am responsible. This is beyond crazy.

How are you fellas/ladies making out on insurance this year?

get this they are $90 CHEAPER than trail smart... yes I have two cars and my house with them
$90 bones is $90 bones covers some of my trail pass though

My guess is Trail Smart already knows this and are looking for you to go back to your original insurance broker...

They are all in bed together

One of my sleds went up $90. The other one went down, but they have the wrong year listed. I had mine with Century Insurance, through Farmers Insurance, but Century quit insuring sleds.

I can't say I feel your pain, 03REV800 $365/yr, 97MACHZ $64/yr. Trailsmart is supposed to be for sledders but they are the worst as far as insurance rates. Last year they said they wouldn't insure the MachZ but low and behold I got insurance for $64 a year.
If all insurance companies are in bed together, mine must have finished early and went off to watch the rest of the game. :D

My insurance went up about $40 when I got the new sled. That was pretty good I thought. But I just tried to get some new house insurance holy cow I called eight different places and only 3 would even give me a quote. Insurance is fu*** up right now.

Why would you have such a high deductible with only comp?
Your insurance co. is taking you to the cleaners!
I pay $203.00 per year for a 2000 800 Doo full coverage $200.00 deduct. 0 tickets.
Dont know if you have Nationwide insurance their but look around. Do a search on this subject, it has been ask many times.

Jawz? What a guy! He has misled you.The guy works for a bank where he gets loans and mortgages below prime. It's the same with insurance for him. Ask him what he used to pay before he dicovered his own oasis of savings. He needs these deals to counter act the amount he spends on sleds.

On Friday @ home, I got a email from a sledder here in Ontario w/ a press release from the OFSC. Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of the email & the press release isn't on the OFSC website yet.

The gist is that Jevco Insurance of Montreal will be the new carrier for the Trail Smart program. I checked Jevco's website & they have offered sled insurance in Quebec.

The press release said that they will not be the cheapest, but will not have a blacklist or demand a person to switch all their non-sled policies. Also they will be able to offer insurance to 99% of snowmobilers.

Maybe Indy SKS will have a copy of this release & he can post it.

As an aside, while going thru the maps I picked up the show & updating my accommodation list, I saw an advert for MASS Insurance on the District 9 map. The ad lists Harold McAdam as the president. This is the first time I've seen this widely known fact published. Also when I saw the ad I realized that I hadn't seen Happy Harold's pic in any of the magazines this fall. Would I be a cynic by saying he was noticeable by his absence?

This just released today ...

OFSC Launches New and Improved
Trail Smart Insurance Program

(Barrie, ON. Oct 31, 2003): Ontario snowmobilers who have purchased a 2004 Snowmobile Trail Permit have a new choice for obtaining personal sled insurance this winter. Effective November 1, 2003, the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) is pleased to reintroduce its Trail Smart Insurance program with a new carrier, the Jevco Insurance Company. Specialists in snowmobile insurance, Jevco brings a new approach to buying sled insurance. Their philosophy with respect to snowmobiles is not to restrict them but rather rate the risk based on the type of sled, driver experience and record.

“Thanks to our consultants, Dion Durrell Associates, and to Jevco, this new outlook means an end to the blacklist that negatively impacted so many OFSC snowmobilers last winter,” stated Dennis Burns, OFSC President. “Trail Smart Insurance will be competitively priced. While it may not always be the least expensive, Jevco has guaranteed us that insurance will be available for 99% of snowmobiles.”

With automobile insurance, which includes snowmobiles, suffering higher premiums and market uncertainty last winter, many snowmobilers were unable to obtain quotes on their sleds. Some insurance companies refused to cover snowmobiles at all, while others would only insure certain models. Still others would only insure sleds along with other property.

Trail Smart will not blacklist sleds and will provide stand-alone snowmobile insurance exclusively for OFSC members. This means that Trail Smart does not require a rider to add a home and/or car to be able to receive a quote or be insured for a sled, unlike the majority of other insurance companies. While the OFSC Trail Smart Insurance Program does not solve the current insurance crisis, it brings the benefits of group insurance to snowmobilers at a time when many are looking for a good alternative.

“This is a very good news story because the availability of Trail Smart Insurance will have several positive effects this winter,” concluded Burns. “More riders will be able to obtain coverage, so sleds that sat uninsurable in a garage last season can be on the trail again this year. More sleds means more tourism business and that will provide increased economic benefits to many snowbelt communities.”

The OFSC continues to work with insurers and the government to motivate the changes necessary to make sled insurance more affordable. It is also the first snowmobile association in North America’s to develop and implement a comprehensive snowmobiling risk management program to help reduce insurance claims. For the upcoming season, the OFSC is also stepping up its award winning SledSmart Public Education Safety Campaign to reduce snowmobiling injuries and fatalities.

The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs is dedicated to providing strong leadership and support to member clubs and volunteers, to establishing and maintaining quality snowmobile trails which are used in a safe and environmentally responsible manner, and to furthering the enjoyment of organized snowmobiling.

Good to hear Dave ,but might be too late for me.
I had to put my 04 into Moniques name to get decent priced coverage.
Not what I wanted to doo but it had to have ins. right?

I will be calling checking tomorrow to see if rates are any good.
But in the end this could be good for sleders.

my insurance went down a hair to $330 for 2 sleds , a 98 srx 700 and a 03 rx-1
both have fire+theft and liab but no collision.
Now I called about adding collision to the 03 and they would add$1128 /year .

This sucks the sled is now worth less than last year and then you put the extra $1200 on there and the difference they pay you back gets less every year .
I think everyones insurance should go down evey year because your sled is worth less .

This happened to someone I know , his boat ins stayed the same for years . I told him my idea and he called and it went down . his boat went from being worth $10k to 5 or 6k

Why doesnt my truck and everything go down every year????

Other than value why does it matter what sled I am riding for this black list thing .

My srx is as fast or faster than my rx1 but Iget a hassle because of the 1000cc

I can crash both of them just as good as I could say a 600 rev or cat.

I think the insurance companies F*&^ us . Granted there are some bad apples that screw them but insurance burns my *ss , I pay a ton everymonth on insurance between house, boat, sleds and 2 truck , riders on jewlery , mntn bikes ect .

A man cant afford to insure his toys , what is this world comming too??

Well the OFSC finally released the info we've been talking about in regards to "competitive rates" and only "pure race sleds" (Limited build race only sleds like the 440 cc sleds.)

Call Trailsmart directly, not Jevco. Their staff may not be informed enpough yet to be able to answer all of your questions and provide accurate insurance quotes.

I hope this will provide a reasonable alternative to those of you having a hard time trying to find coverage.

Please note: They're only stating they'll provide competitve rates, not the lowest rates.

2001 sleds are built in late summer, fall and early winter of the previous year.

Just like cars are listed as 2004 for example and they're built between July 2003 to June / July 2004.

The VIN plate found on the side of the tunnal refers to the actual build date.

As far as "TrailSmart" Insurance Brokers contact phone numbers go, please see the thread I posted before I realized that IndySKS had allready posted the OFSC press release in this thread. Dave, you're just too efficient. LOL

I just got a quote from Trail Smart.

$403 + tax for bare minimum coverage on a 94 Indy 500 efi. Sounds pretty high to me for a sled that's worth $2000 at best and a clean record!

Does anyone know of another insurance company in Ontario that will cover just a sled. My cars and house are locked up until July.

willy700
11-07-2003, 04:26 PM
Check out Johnson insurance http://www.johnson.ca/, they quoted me $300 for a 2004 pro x 700, no collision though it was an extra $700. You have to have a car or house policy there to cover a sled.

I switched to Meloche monnex insurance, they sell insurance to groups (ie university grad) and are pretty cheap. $290 taxes incl with collision, $500 deductible. for pro x 700. They will not insure a sled without a car or home policy.

I am not sure but have any of you guys tried Primmum Insurance? I have both my sleds.........a 2001 MXZX 440 and a 2003 Rev 440 insured there and the total for both machines is $319.65. Mind you that does not include collision but if you hit something you should not be riding! (in my opinion)
