When does the trail system officially shut down in Ontario for ATV's. What I mean is, there has to be a actual date when these people have to stop and give up their trails to Sleds right?

December 01 or when the sled club in your area starts grooming the trials

There are shared use trailsout there, lots of rail lines are but I think you are right Paul. From what I can remember there is no agreement in Ontario. Have you ever ridden in Quebec where the ATV trail is groomed right beside the sled trail?

no, in fact never heard about it. the trails around southwestern ontario are generally cropped throughout the snowmobile off season which makes it a no no for ATV'ers.

We have a heritage trail here near us in Bancroft and anyone can use it anytime on anything but the trails to get there are landowner trails and are off limits to atv's. I have ridden in Quebec with the atv trail right beside the sled trail.

There are a few areas, such as the Seguin Trail, that is a year round recreational trail. Quite acceptable to ride ATV's on it, but most of the connecting trails are private and off limits.

As soon as the OFSC officially opens a trail, you are not to be on it with an ATV.

Not many shared trails in these southern parts, but there are lots of OFSC trails that we are loosing, since the ATV'ers think its OK to run down the farmers crops.

P.S. I'm not bashing ATV'ers, as I am one, just the ones who are that inconsiderate to how somebody makes a living.

Fish..i own an atv as well but you should see the damage they are doing to the hydro corridors and just about anywhere they can get to up north. the 4 wheelers are gonna find themselves under alot more flak than sleds for the permanent damage they are inflicting..Steve

Rottie,
i have heard that same story around here and i think it will affect us sledders privileges on private property. what the problem is ATV'ing is not a family sport the same way sledding is, that's my conclusion. the worst part is it is probably only one out of every hundred of them is a goofball causing the damage.

Ok kinda off topic but someone mentioned groomed atv trails in Quebec during the winter . How do you groom an atv trail ? same as a sled trail ? Sorry for my lack of knowledge on this but I did not know they had groomed winter atv trails in quebec . Learn something new every day :)

And on the real topic I would asume as soon as the trails are groomed they are off limits to ATV's .... granted that it is crown land or they had permission or the right to be there in the first place .
