Hello, I was just helping my buddy do up his '01 ZL 500 with some accessories over the weekend. When we went to start it up, the oil light came on, there is plenty of oil, so what else could it be? Does the oil light have another function, like an engine light could mean any number of things. It has never come on before but I don't think we could have caused it meddling with anyting, we pulled his handle bars apart to put on some hand guards, and put on a new windshield but no performance add-ons. So does anybody have any suggestions or ideas?
Thanks, Greg

The oil light is only connected to the oil tank, try unplugging the oil sending unit in the oil tank, if light goes out, replace oil sending unit.

You mention there's plenty of oil but is it full?. If you haven't tried yet, try adding oil see if it goes out. I know the light on my '98 ZR goes on when the reservoir is still almost half full.

Just an easy test to see if it's something simple before tearing things apart.

Well we replaced the whole oil level sensor and all is now well.
