Here is the situation..I have 87 octane available. Also can get access to some C-111 from VP fuels. Can I mix the two to get 91 octane (reliable) and how much of each would be involved?

I don't know what C-111 is. I DO know what C-11 is. :D

C11
Motor Octane: 104

This is how you do it.
(104 octane X .33 gal) + (87 octane X .66 gal)

104 X .33 = 34.32
087 X .66 = 57.42
= 91.74 octane.

That is straight from Jordan D. @ VP in Calgary. :hallo1:

there was an ad in our autotrader from VP Racing saying they've solved all the snowmobiler's problems by offering C-111 fuel..all I found on their website was the C-11 also.

Would this be a wise way to go about it?

better check on that mixing of v-p fuels.I know several years ago when I used to street race a bunch the v-p supplier locally here told me to buy the sunoco instead because the v-p did not mix well.I ended up running the sunoco 110 mixed with the 87 regular, yes it was still available at the time :) .we ran the c-14 in our race car('27 t altered, mike spitzer built) when it was on gas,I liked the alky better myself cheaper too.

any other opinions on the mixing of v-p brand fuels with pump fuel?

brian ,I too have mixed the two and noticed nothing, had about 10 gallons of c-14 I mixed with 89 regular in my 406 sb,it was when I asked about it after the fact that I was told not too.but what I was told was the v-p and pump fuel will not stay mixed and separate causing you too have in-consistant octane.being it came from the local v-p supplier  ?

To me, its kinda hard to picture them coming seperated. Of course if I was a VP rep, I would tell you not to mix it either...I would sell more fuel that way :)

Did you mod your motor to raise the compression? Using higher octane than recommended by the manufacturer will only lighten your wallet faster and maybe even make your sled slower.

No. many skidoo models now require 91 octane for their factory engines.

Rocketman, you can mix VP race gas and pump gas with no problems. It is done all the time by thousands of racers daily. It will take care of your octane problem and make your motor happy!

Remember that there are 2 numbers in the Octane formula. R&M. Research and Motor. They are averaged to get the final number. You should consult with the 104 manufacturer and give them the 87's info if you can.

I don't know the specifics of the 2 gasolines you are trying to use but mixing is done all the time. I don't do it and think it is all pointless.

I have an old '69 Mercury Outboard that loves the old 101 Octane Leaded gas that was available way back when but it does great on the 87 Pump gas at the marina. I think fresh is better than higher octane anyday.

Higher Octane fuel may allow for higher compression by retarding the temperature that it ignites at. 91 would have a higher number than 87 but it is quite possible that the 87 would provide more power since it has a lower ignition point and in theory would have ignite before the 91 would. In escense advancing the timing a bit. There is more risk of detonation if there are hotspots in the cylinders. I once ran straight ether drained from a can of starting fluid in my lawn mower and it ran with no ignition needed rather like a deisel engine. I had to run it out of fuel to stop it. Ether has a real low octane number.

You might just try a 4 to 1 mix first and go from there if you are concerned. Where and how you ride is just as important. If you are at 8000 feet and are an animal with the throttle then you might want more octane than a 1000 footer granny riding.
