I'm either going to order a new EFI for next fall, or pick up a left over tripple at the end of the year. *I previously thought efi was the way to go. *My sister in law has a 00 ZL 600 with over 2000 miles on it and never had a lick of problems. *I've recently read a lot of problem posts, and it has me second guessing, but it seems that the problems are with particular sleds and not the efi in general. *But I read somewhere a good point.

If you are in the middle of no where, you can usually get a carbed model home. *You can pretty much disasseble them in the field and fix it. *With an efi, your helpless. *So that is my question. *

Does anyone know if something happened with an efi that wouldn't allow it to run, could you by pass the computer and get it to at least limp home???

From what I can remember, and anyone can correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there some kind of limp home mode built into the system if the computer or some other part should break or pop? *I thought it limited the speed to a certain speed and the jetting ran at a certain (rich) setting..... dunno, but I thought I heard that somewhere

If a sensor goes bad the computer will go into full-rich mode or limp-home mode as many call it. I had this happen on my RXL with a crankcase temp. sender.

It is the yellow wire above the throttle bodies. If your sled won't start unplug this wire it will *run *rich in this mode but will get you home. Had to do this on a 98 zr last week in the Black Hills of South Dakota.......

I had a stuck power valve cable and the computer went into limp mode and I drove her 30 miles (no fun) but no problem.

Anyone ever here of an efi seizing? *I guess with the limp home mode it should never happen. *I guess it goes along with the say better safe than sorry. *It might give you greif to ride it in the safe mode, but you don't have a blown sled in the middle of no where.
