I got my TMX 34 taper bored out to a 36. Has anyone had any experience with these little things on a MXZX 440? I need suggestions to set up the mid range (cut away on slide, needle and jet). I'm pretty sure I can set up the main jets with out too much trouble. I'm a little uneasy with the mid range.
Any help would be appreciated.

Well I got some for you.I had my 40s taper bored out to 43.5s and man did i have some fun in the midrange. :dazed: Geees. I ended up keeping with the same main jets but had to go up(bigger) on the jet needle tubes..THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO MELT DOWN IN THE MIDRANGE) I went down 3 times!!!!!!! But now have the right tubes in hear!
OHYA. I AM RUNNING A 2000 MXZ 700 SB.
Like i say go up at least 8 sizes, keeping your needle clip on #1 position (RICHEST), and lean it out as you need it to run clean.!!!
Stock needle tube for a 700 2000 was Z-7 went up to a AA-5
And the correct term for these are MIKUNI NEEDLE JETS...
Leave the slides alone!!!
I was able to tune it in with just the needle tubes.
SPECIFICATIONS: MXZX 440 RACER
What year is it? 2002 has a none replacable needle jet P-O with 6FNY04-51 needles-clip in#3 position and 260 mains 25 pilot jet!
2001 needle jet should be a Q-6 with 6FIY4-59 needles-clip in#4 position and 320 mains and 25 pilot jet.
2000 needle jet is Q-6 with 6FIY5-59 needles-clip in#4 position and a 300 main jet with a 25 pilot jet.
1999 needlejet is Q-6 with 6FIY5-58 needles-clip in#3 position and a 290 main jet with a 25 pilot.
Remember..all these differant jetting specs for the same motor ,are caused for differant air boxs. differant pipes, etc.

Thanks for the info Joewin! I find it very interesting that you spent alot of your time calibrating the Needle Jet as apposed to the Jet needle. I'm going to try a richer jet needle before I try changing the Needle jet. Alot of the little TMX 34 have "fixed" Needle Jets by the manufacturere. I'm not sure if mine are interchangable? (Stock: Q-6). Some may feel otherwise, but the TMX'x seem to be a bit more forgiving in midrange (compared to the round slides). This is one of the reason why I chose to modify my TMX 34's, most of the maunfacturers use Q-6 or Q-8's on the 440's with a good selection of jet needles.
The carbs I modified are off a ZR 440 sno-pro (2000?2001?) but, I've recaliberated it for my stock 2004 MXZX 440. I still feel uneasy about the mid ranfe so I will have to try a few different set ups.
I'll try your suggestion on stock slide valves and larger needle jet.
Thanks!

I tried taking out the needle jets last night only to find out these suckers are "fixed"! :cussing: Can anyone recommend a jet needle that is 2 or 3 sizes smaller / richer? I think stock is 6FNY4-4.
Thanks
